Facing a skin cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but expert care matters 💚

We are pleased to announce that Mohs Micrographic Surgery will soon be launching at Greater Lancashire Hospital.

Mohs surgery is an advanced treatment for certain skin cancers, offering extremely high precision while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. It is especially valuable in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

During the Mohs process, the tumour can be removed, assessed and reconstructed by a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, all within the same visit.

Skin cancers can look different, and signs may be less obvious on different skin tones. Always check anything unusual:

🔅A new or changing mole
(shape, colour, or size)
🔅A lump on the skin
🔅A scaly, crusty, or rough patch
🔅A sore or scab that doesn’t heal within 3 weeks

Using sunbeds also increases your risk of skin cancer. They expose you to high levels of harmful UV radiation, similar to sunlight.

Top tips for staying safe in the sun:

🔸Cover up and wear a wide-brimmed hat
🔸Drink plenty of water
🔸Use SPF 30+ sunscreen with 5★ UVA protection. Reapply every 2 hours, or more often if swimming or exercising.
🔸Wear UV-protective sunglasses.
🔸In the UK, the sun is strongest between 11am–3pm (March–October), but it can still cause damage at other times,even on cloudy days.
