The most dramatic event in local medical history has its centenary this October.

100 years ago this October saw the tragic death of Nora Marmion in Bamber Bridge, Preston and the resulting dramatic trial of two doctors that gripped the town and was followed in detail by local and national media. We will be discussing what happened in the lead up to the centenary.

The announcement of new 24/7 neighbourhood mental health centres is a very welcome step for a mental health system under sustained pressure. 💙
.
CEO, David Dunwell comments, "The scale of investment into community-based mental health support represents an important opportunity to shift more care towards earlier help, prevention and local access. If implemented well, these centres could help people get the right advice, support and connection before they reach crisis point."
.
Lancashire Mind is actively working with NHS colleagues to support the design and implementation of the Lancashire centres, and we plan to be involved from the outset.
We hope they will become trusted, accessible places where people can find help close to home, in a way that aligns closely with our mission to connect, support and change minds.

See how opening hours have changed since 1905!

Dardsley the home now of Lostock Hall Medical Centre was for 62 years from 1886 the family home and practice of Dr Thomas Sharples and then of his son Dr Sydney Sharples.
This doctor's bill of 1905 provided by a current patient Graham from his family, makes clear that prior to 1948 medical services were all private. £1 10 shillings and 6 pence for services provided to Thomas Rawcliffe.
The bill also documents the opening hours of the practice: to 10 o'clock, 2 to 3 o'clock, 7 to 8 o'clock, Sundays 9 to 10 o'clock.
There would also have been a busy home visit schedule in a horse and cart for the wealthy patients.

MANY THANKS for text responses to request for feedback from those who attended the practice in May. 97% rated us as Very Good or Good. Here are screenshots of some of the lovely comments that we have shared with the team. We value the critical comments too as they help us look for further improvements. We know you would like your time waiting after arrival to be shorter. We do try but also need to make sure everybody receives the time they need.
