Pressure doesn’t always feel like a problem.
For a lot of men it feels like the engine.
The thing that got them the house, the career, the life they wanted.
And they’re not wrong.
But the nervous system doesn’t distinguish between productive pressure and the kind that’s quietly wearing the body down.
It just stays switched on.
I had a client tell me that staying in that state was a choice. That it worked for him.
I didn’t argue.
But I did ask, if the body is taking the toll of it, what’s the actual cost?
He said he balanced it with sport, competition, holidays.
I’ve thought about that a lot since.
Because high-intensity sport is still the sympathetic nervous system doing what it does.
And a holiday is distance from the environment, not regulation of the system.
The body comes with you everywhere you go.
Balance isn’t always what we think it is.
Sometimes it’s just more of the same thing, wearing different clothes.
