Sometimes the loveliest thank-you’s are the ones you can keep. ❤️

I recently received this beautiful tealight and card from a family after having the privilege of leading the funeral of someone very special to them – and to me.

It was such a thoughtful gesture and one that genuinely meant a lot.

Being trusted to tell someone's story, to capture their personality and all those little things that made them who they were, is something I never take for granted.

This little tealight will have a special place in my home – and whenever I light it, I will think of Mick. ❤️

Thank you. x

Three weeks to go! 💍

I’ll be at the Hobbit Hill Wedding Fair on Sunday 20th September, and I’m really looking forward to meeting lots of lovely couples.

If you’re planning your wedding and wondering what a celebrant-led ceremony could look like, come and have a chat with me.

You absolutely don’t need to know what you want yet. You can tell me what you’ve planned so far, ask me what on earth a celebrant actually does, or just come over and say hello!

I’ll be there to talk all things ceremonies — the meaningful bits, the funny bits, the personal touches and those little moments that make your guests think, “That was so them.”

No hard sell. Just a friendly chat about the two of you and your wedding. 😊

“That will stay with me forever.”

Sometimes a few words stop you in your tracks.

After recently leading a funeral, I checked in with the family a few days later to see how they were doing.

At the end of his reply, the gentleman's son wrote:

“Thank you so much for everything you did, that will stay with me forever.”

Those words meant such a lot to me.

When a family trusts me to lead a funeral, they're trusting me with someone's story – the people they loved, the things that made them laugh, their quirks, their memories and all those little details that made them who they were.

Getting that right matters a great deal to me.

And if a family comes away feeling that their person was truly seen, remembered and celebrated for who they were, then I've done what I set out to do.

Thank you, Nick, for allowing me to share your lovely words. ❤️

The funeral is over. Everyone has gone home. And somehow, the rest of the world seems to carry on as normal.

But what if your normal has completely changed?

My latest blog is about something we perhaps don’t talk about enough — adjusting to life after a funeral.

The quiet days afterwards. The unexpected memories. The first time you laugh and wonder whether you should. And gradually finding your own way forward without feeling that you have to leave the person you love behind.

Because the funeral may mark a goodbye, but the stories and memories carry on.

💍 Registrar or Celebrant – what’s the difference?

It’s something lots of couples aren’t sure about when they start planning.

A registrar takes care of the legal marriage, while a celebrant gives you the freedom to create a ceremony that’s completely personal to you.

Your story. Your people. Your way. 🤍

Have a flick through and see what feels right for you.

Well, this isn’t a bad spot for book club! 📚

And, when it comes with views like this over the Ribble Valley, it’d be rude not to share them!

A lovely evening chatting to Iqbal Hussein the author of ‘Northern Boy’ the book we read this month.

We’re very lucky to have views like this on our doorstep. The Lovely Cow Shed is in a fabulous part of the world.

Yesterday, we said goodbye to Mick.

And what a testament it was to the man he was.

Around 250 people came together to remember him – family, friends and so many familiar faces from a lifetime spent in and around Longridge. The sheer number of people there spoke volumes about how well known, and how well loved, Mick was.

Throughout the ceremony there were tears, but there was laughter too as we shared stories from across Mick’s life – his family, his years as a plasterer, his adventures at home and abroad, his love of birds and music, and plenty of memories involving his mates, a pint, the bookies and the occasional trip to the casino.

In the days leading up to the funeral, and again yesterday, one description of Mick came up time and time again:

“He was such a lovely man.”

And judging by the number of people who came to say goodbye, it’s clear just how many people thought so.

We said goodbye to Mick with Heroes by David Bowie playing, a fitting final song for a man who meant so much to so many.

It was an honour and real privilege to stand alongside Mick’s family and help them tell his story.

And a special thank you to Tom and the team at William Houghton’s Funeral Directors, and to Zoe and Ben at Preston Crematorium. It takes many people working quietly behind the scenes to make sure everything comes together on such an important day, and it was a pleasure to work alongside you all

Rest peacefully, Mick. You certainly won’t be forgotten.
