Eye test time! 👁️

The nights are drawing in... and your eyes are working overtime. 🌙

All those darker evenings mean your eyes are doing more work than they used to. Driving home in the dark, staring at screens when the sun's gone, squinting at street signs you never noticed before.

Here's what we'd say:

👁️ If you're squinting at the dashboard, that's your eyes telling you something.
👁️ If night driving feels harder than it used to, it's not just you, and it's not just your age.
👁️ If you're getting headaches after screen time, your prescription might be out of date.

The good news? A quick sight test sorts most of it. And getting it sorted now means you're ready for the winter properly, not just the dark nights, but the whole season.

This is not always easy😫

Firstly, you can look for the label or sticker. Legitimate sunglasses sold in the UK and EU should clearly state "UV 400" or "100% UV protection" on a sticker, tag, or printed on the temple arm.

🚫But beware: does the £10 pair with a UV 400 sticker have a genuine sticker, or is it a knock-off? Its not always easy to tell.

☀️UV 400 is the key. That means they block all UV rays up to 400 nanometres, which covers both UVA and UVB. Anything labelled "UV 400" blocks 100%.

🛡️Check the CE mark. Sunglasses sold in the UK should have a CE or UKCA mark, which means they meet safety standards for UV protection.

💷What about price? Expensive doesn't automatically mean better protection. A £10 pair with a UV 400 sticker is just as protective as a £300 designer pair, the difference is lens quality, durability, and style.

😎One thing to watch: Darker lenses don't mean more UV protection. In fact, dark lenses without UV coating can be worse, your pupils dilate in the dark, letting in more harmful rays. So always check for the UV 400 label, regardless of lens colour.

If in doubt, buy your sunglasses from a fully qualified optician.
