Us women are just amazing. Dont you think? đЎ
We remember everyones birthdays, medication schedules, favourite meals, work deadlines, secrets and family dramasâŚ
Every. Single. Day
Even forgetful women like me have a special memory compartment for my loved ones thatâs non-negotiable. The downside? You put yourself last.
When I retrained as a therapist, I remember not having a single uninterrupted thought of my own for years . The kids were young and life was fast. And being needed was the norm and more important than having your own needs.
But I came to understand that looking after your own needs is not selfish. It did take some time to rewire that bit and accept that self-care wasnât just a glass of wine with friends (although it is that too) but things like going for walks on my own, having an early night in, less diary dates and saying no without lengthy explanations.
If youâve spent decades looking after everyone else, donât be surprised if putting yourself first feels really uncomfortable.
But youâre just rusty from under practice. And like any skill, it comes back.
If youâve been following me for awhile, you probably already know that helping midlife women rebuild self-worth once the kids have left is my thing!
Iâve done it myself and now I get to help other women too. It is certainly a gift that keeps on giving.
Comment MIDLIFE to find out how you too could thrive and prosper once the children are gone đ¤
