Here is a patient-facing Facebook post based on current NHS guidance:

🦠 MenB (Meningitis B) Vaccine Information 🦠

We've received a number of enquiries about the MenB vaccine, so we'd like to clarify who is eligible and where it can be obtained.

βœ… The MenB vaccine is routinely offered on the NHS to babies as part of the childhood vaccination programme at: β€’ 8 weeks β€’ 12 weeks β€’ 1 year old

βœ… The vaccine is also available for certain people at increased medical risk, and there is currently a temporary NHS vaccination programme for some eligible young people and students. Eligibility criteria apply.

❗Please note: The Orchard Partnership is NOT providing MenB vaccinations for eligible young people under the temporary programme.

πŸ“If you are an eligible young person or student, MenB vaccinations should be booked through participating community pharmacies offering the service.

πŸ‘Ά If your child has missed a routine MenB vaccination, please contact the practice. Catch-up vaccination can usually be arranged up to their 2nd birthday.

🩺 Meningococcal B bacteria can cause serious illnesses including meningitis and sepsis. Vaccination is the best way to help protect those who are eligible.

For more information about MenB vaccination and eligibility, please visit: 🌐 https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/menb-vaccine-for-children/

Thank you for your understanding and please help us share this information with family and friends. πŸ’™

Please do not contact reception to request a MenB vaccination for students or young people, as these appointments are not available at our practice. πŸ“žβŒ

πŸ“±πŸ’™ Finding the right balance with screen time

Screens are a part of everyday life, but too much screen use can impact children's sleep, attention, language development and opportunities for play and social interaction.

βœ… Children under 2 years should avoid screen time where possible (except for things like video calls with family)
βœ… Children aged 2 to 5 years should have no more than 1 hour of screen time per day, and less is even better
βœ… Prioritise active play, reading, outdoor activities and face-to-face interaction

When screens are used, choose age-appropriate, slow-paced content and, where possible, enjoy it together. Talking about what children are watching can help support their learning and development.

Small changes can make a big difference to your child's health and wellbeing. Why not swap some screen time this week for a family walk, a story, or creative play? πŸŒžπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŽ¨

πŸ₯ Waiting for a hospital referral? Here's what you can do.

We've updated our website with everything you need to know about tracking or chasing a referral β€” including ways you can check the status yourself without needing to contact us.

βœ… Check the NHS App β€” most referrals can be tracked under 'Appointments'
βœ… Use a patient portal link β€” check any letters or emails you received when you were referred
βœ… Contact the hospital directly β€” Salisbury District Hospital: 01722 336262

If you've already tried these and need us to write to the service on your behalf, we can help with that too. Contact reception to request our Referral Expedition form β€” we'll email it to you to complete and return, and our admin team will take it from there. No GP appointment needed.

πŸŒŠπŸ’™ Make a Splash This Summer! πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Swimming is more than just a fun activity – it's a fantastic way to support both physical and mental wellbeing. Regular swimming can help improve heart health, build strength, boost confidence, reduce stress, and support overall fitness, while being gentle on joints and suitable for all ages. πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

Learning to swim is also an important life skill, helping children and adults stay safe around water while gaining confidence and independence. πŸ’§

For patients across our Orchard Partnership communities in Shrewton, Codford, Fovant and Wilton, some of the nearest venues offering swimming and swimming lessons include:

πŸ“ Durrington Swimming & Fitness Centre (ideal for Shrewton residents)
πŸ“ Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre, Salisbury (convenient for Wilton and Fovant residents)
πŸ“ Nadder Centre, Tisbury (a good option for many Codford and Fovant residents)

All offer swimming sessions, family swims and lessons for a range of ages and abilities.

Whether you're looking to improve your fitness, help your child develop a valuable life skill, or simply enjoy some time in the water, now is a great time to dive in! πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈβœ¨

🌞 Hot Weather Advice for Patients Using Insulin 🌞

With the warmer weather, we'd like to remind patients who use insulin to take extra care when storing and transporting their medication.

🌑️ High temperatures can affect how well insulin works, so it's important to keep it within the recommended temperature range wherever possible.

🧊 If you're taking insulin to work, travelling, or spending time outdoors, you may wish to consider using an insulated insulin travel case or cooler bag to help protect it from the heat.

βœ… There are many suitable products available. One example is: πŸ”— https://amzn.eu/d/0aaiQOjH

If you have concerns about your insulin, or think it may have been exposed to excessive heat, please speak to a dispenser, pharmacist or your diabetes care team for advice.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! β˜€οΈπŸ˜Ž

πŸ“’ Friendly Reminder

Cherry Orchard Surgery (Codford) will be closed tomorrow due to a planned power outage by SSE.

βœ… Our phone lines will continue to operate as normal, with colleagues working from other Orchard Partnership sites.

πŸ’Š The Hubby dispensing machine will be unavailable on the day, so please collect routine medication either before the closure or on Wednesday 29 July. Urgent medication can be collected from Till Orchard Surgery, Shrewton.

We've worked hard to minimise disruption and have increased dispensing capacity around the closure, but please bear with us as some services may be affected.

Thank you for your patience and understanding πŸ’™
