A lovely way to round up Volunteer's Week 2026 as we presented a Room to Reward voucher to Kevin at Deerlands to thank him for his invaluable work keeping the gardens neat and planted for our residents.

The Room to Reward scheme allows us to nominate volunteers for a night away in a UK hotel to thank them for the contribution they provide in our homes.

Thank you to all the staff at Housteads for organising this amazing day for the residents, who enjoyed a trip back in time to the swinging 60s!

The sun shone and everyone got involved, staff and residents had a great day, including dancing and singing outside in the gardens.

This week we are celebrating Volunteers' Week!

Kath has been volunteering with us as a Befriender at Deerlands for over four years.

Loved by staff and residents, they said "She's such an asset!" and was nominated for the Room to Reward scheme last year, receiving a free night away in a UK hotel to thank her for all the support she provides to our staff and residents.

When our Chief Executive, Claire Rintoul, wanted to find out more about what’s it like to be a resident in one of the charity’s care homes, she realised there was just one thing to do … become a resident herself!

Claire chose a room at our Knowle Hill home in Beighton, where residents with fully en-suite facilities also enjoy a family cafe and activity room, as well as a sheltered outdoor area with its own pub.
