Every Wednesday, Springwood Residential Care Home hosts a Gentlemen’s Club for residents.

The group gives male residents a regular opportunity to spend time together, talk and take part in activities such as dominoes, cards and quizzes.

Regular social activity can help reduce isolation, support mental wellbeing, maintain communication skills and encourage routine and participation.

Sessions like this are a practical way to support connection and meaningful engagement within the home.

Sheffcare is seeking a new Trustee to join our Board and support our aim that everyone has a good day, every day. We do this by putting our values at the heart of everything we do:

· Kindness
· Dignity

Choosing a care home for someone you love can feel emotional, confusing and overwhelming. Families often have to make decisions quickly, while also trying to understand care needs, costs, paperwork and what support may be available.

As a Sheffield based not-for-profit charity with nine care homes across the city, we want families to feel informed, reassured and supported from the very beginning and have put together a short article to help guide you through some of the processes.

From questions you might want to ask at a visit, to understanding funding, benefits you could be entitled to and how the resources at Age UK can assist you, you can read more here: https://www.sheffcare.co.uk/finding-the-right-care-home.html

Introducing our new Namaste Room at Valley Wood!

The principles of Namaste in dementia care are used around the world and it translates to mean “to honour the soul within”.

Our Room at Valley Wood is a calm, welcoming space on the ground floor which opens out onto a peaceful garden space.

Ideal for small groups or one-to-one engagement, although activities can also take place in residents’ own rooms.

Sessions celebrate positive touch in a peaceful setting, offering soft music, gentle lighting, soothing aromas, sensory items and hand massage, all designed to awaken the senses and encourage connection and communication.

Our nurturing space is proving to be a hit with residents!

If you want to find out more about life at Valley Wood, please get in touch via [email protected].

Caring for someone with dementia is a journey filled with challenges, emotions, and uncertainties. At Sheffcare, we understand how overwhelming it can feel, especially when your relative lives in a care home.

We’re offering Dementia Awareness Sessions, led by our Dementia & Wellbeing Manager, Kathryn Rawling, to help you navigate this experience with confidence and support.

Our sessions are designed to:
✅ Provide valuable insights into dementia and its progression
✅ Share practical guidance on supporting a loved one in care
✅ Offer a safe, welcoming space to talk
✅ Connect you with others who understand what you’re going through

We believe that the more we know, the more we understand and so the better we can support our loved ones and ourselves.

Join us at Midhurst Road on 30 October 2026 for an informative and compassionate session that could make all the difference.

Reserve your place! - Contact the team at Midhurst Road on 0114 285 5345 for more information.
