“Being outside feels free.”

Sheffield does make it easy. Open spaces, decent views, a city that never quite commits to being one.

But the bit that stayed with us was what came after.

That being outside with someone changes how you are with them. You share the view, and somewhere in that you end up sharing more than the view.

Which is probably why the best conversations happen on a walk rather than across a table.

Who do you go out there with?

Some of you have spotted it. Some of you have asked. A few of you have watched Chris explain it to someone who didn’t ask.

It’s R1SE’s 3D body scanner. It builds a full model of you in about 2 minutes so you can see what’s actually happening inside, rather than guessing.

Live from 1st September. Free first scan for members.

How long before Chris talks you into a spin?

What if your best holiday wasn’t in a different time zone?

No flight delays. No overpriced resort food. Just good friends, local spots, and your own couch at the end of the night.

Stay local, keep your money, and make the most of what’s right outside your front door ✨

You don't need to know any of this to come to a class. But it does explain why Reformer feels harder than it looks.

Most training only really loads you in one direction. Up, out, push. The return journey is gravity's problem, and gravity is very generous.

A spring isn't. It's pulling the entire time, so the way back is as much work as the way out. No coasting, no bottom of the rep where you get a breather.

It's also why beginners who think they're taking it easy find they very much were not.

Chair test, be honest. Lower, or arrive?

WE HOPPED. WE YOGAED. WE MATCHA’D. 🐸🍵
And what a morning it was.

R1SE x Frog at Brook Place was a VERY good idea.
Big energy, good people, lots of matcha.

“There will never be a good time. Just go for it.”

Bella, Kate, Ashton, Lizzie, Rebecca, Rose, Gaynor and Mariana. 8 different stories, all with the same starting point - if they didn’t do it that year, they worried they never would.

One left a corporate job of twenty years. One had never planned on teaching at all and ended up doing it anyway. One worried she was the wrong age and not fit enough, and found the course was built for exactly that.

That’s the honest thing about teacher training. Nobody arrives certain. The people who end up doing it aren’t the ones who felt ready, they’re the ones who were ready for a change and to follow a passion.

Our September intake closes soon. Blended Monday evenings plus five Sunday workshops with online learning, so it runs alongside daily life.

Everything is on the website, link in bio, or comment below and we’ll get in touch.
Is this your year?

The urge to breathe isn’t your body asking for oxygen.

It’s asking you to get rid of carbon dioxide.

There’s a small cluster of neurons in your brainstem that does almost nothing except monitor CO2. When levels rise, it fires, and you feel that build. That tightness. That very insistent suggestion that now would be a good time to inhale.

Your oxygen sensors, meanwhile, sit relatively quiet. They don’t get properly involved until levels drop far lower than most people ever reach voluntarily.

Which means the panic at the end of a breath hold usually isn’t an oxygen emergency. There’s plenty left. It’s an alarm, and the alarm is set conservatively.

The useful part: that threshold isn’t fixed. Trained breath-hold divers show a measurably blunted response to rising CO2. Their alarm goes off later, because it’s been taught to.

And the same system runs in the background of everything else. Stress, sleep, how quickly you settle after hard effort.

So when the urge to breathe arrives, what are you actually responding to?

There's nowt quite like Yorkshire.

To the county where "just over that hill" is never just over that hill.
Where a brew fixes most things.
Where the Peaks are practically our back garden.
Where we happily spend our weekends outside, whatever the weather.

Happy Yorkshire Day from Chris & all of us at R1SE.
