This week, we welcomed Museum To You , who delivered a fascinating talk about the history of Thatchers Cider and its roots right here in Somerset.
Residents learned how founder Stan Thatcher began the business in 1904 in Sandford, near Weston-super-Mare, and how the company now grows and uses over 400 varieties of apples. It was particularly interesting to hear that some of the original oak barrels are still in use today, having been handcrafted from oak over 100 years ago!
Of course, no talk about cider would be complete without a tasting session. Residents had the opportunity to sample a selection of Thatchers ciders, including Haze, Heritage, Zero, Blood Orange, and Gold. ππ
It was wonderful to hear everyone's thoughts and compare favourites. The most popular choices of the day were Haze, Zero, and Gold. Residents also discovered that Blood Orange Cider is made using the same traditional process, with blood orange juice added at the final stage to create its distinctive flavour.
A big thank you to Museum to You for an informative and enjoyable afternoon, full of local history, interesting facts, and plenty of conversation.
