✨ Some Connections Never Leave Us ✨
Yesterday would have been my dad’s 70th birthday.
He passed away in September 2024, just three months after I opened Oracle Opticians. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think about him or wish I could tell him about everything that’s happened since.
Yesterday, this wonderful gentleman came back to see me for his eye examination. This wasn’t planned. He booked in a few weeks back.
Many years ago, over 40 years in fact, he worked alongside my dad on the buses. Two year ago, by complete chance, he noticed my surname on the certificates in my consulting room and asked if I was related to “a really nice man called Kainth.” I took a photo of us together when I first opened to show my dad when I saw him. He recognised him instantly.
When I showed my dad our photograph together, he smiled immediately. He remembered him. They spoke so fondly of one another, despite the decades that had passed.
After Dad passed away, we decided that every time he comes to see me, we’ll take another photograph together. It’s our little tradition. A way of keeping a connection alive.
But this visit felt different.
Out of all the days in the year, he came back on what would have been Dad’s 70th birthday.
Was it simply a coincidence?
Maybe.
Or maybe it was Dad’s way of saying hello.
I don’t pretend to know the answers. But I do believe that some people enter our lives for a reason, and that love has a way of leaving traces that time cannot erase. Sometimes those traces arrive through the most unexpected people.
This photograph means more to me than most people will ever realise.
Dad, I miss you every single day.
Happy 70th Birthday. ❤️
