One of the areas I feel most passionate about as a therapist is working with people who have been given the labels of BPD/EUPD or other personality disorders.
Over the years, both through my work in mental health services and in private practice, I have seen how often people with these labels are misunderstood, judged, or dismissed. Sadly, many are made to feel as though they are "too much", "attention seeking", or beyond help.
The reality is often very different.
Behind the label is usually someone who has experienced significant emotional pain, trauma, invalidation, or adversity. Someone who has developed ways of coping that made sense at the time, even if those coping strategies are now causing difficulties.
People living with EUPD/BPD deserve compassion, understanding, and access to the right support. They deserve to be heard, not judged.
Some of the most resilient, insightful, and determined people I have worked with have carried these labels.
It's time we challenged the stigma and started seeing the person, not the diagnosis.
