Brighter Connections are really excited to welcome back David Walshe for his talk about The Steeles and it's Environs. David is always a popular guest and he is working in collaboration with Brighter Living Partnership this year. Wednesday 29th July 2026, 1 pm-3 pm at the Cornerstone Church on Marshside Road and enjoy making new connections or chatting with old friends..
There is no charge to attend, however donations are welcome towards refreshments and the running of the group. Please help us spread the word by sharing the details with any friends or family that may not be on Social Media.😍

Churchtown History Walk – Thursday 20th August 🚶‍♀️
Step back in time and explore one of Southport’s most historic communities with local historian David Walshe.
Join us for a fascinating 90-minute guided walk around historic Churchtown, discovering how this settlement developed from a narrow strip of sandhills into the principal settlement of North Meols.
Along the way you’ll hear stories about:

• 🏛️ Manor houses
• ⛪ St Cuthbert’s Church
• 🗿 The mysterious Obelisk
• 🌾 Windmills
• 🍺 Historic pubs, inns & lost beerhouses

🌸🌿 **Proud to Support Ainsdale in Bloom!** 🌿🌸

Yesterday, we were delighted to support **Ainsdale in Bloom** on their judging day and celebrate the incredible work being carried out by this dedicated community group.

A huge thank you to **Brenda Porter** and all of the volunteers whose hard work and commitment help keep Ainsdale looking so welcoming. From maintaining planters and flower beds to caring for green spaces throughout the village, their efforts make a real difference to everyone who lives in and visits the area. 🌺

We're also incredibly proud that our **Brighter Living Men's Shed** has been able to contribute by building a number of the planters as part of our ongoing community work. It's a wonderful example of local people working together to create something that benefits the whole community.

Well done to everyone involved, and best of luck with the judging! We're proud to support such a fantastic community initiative. 🌼💚

As part of our Connected Through Place project, local historian David Walshe will lead a fascinating 1.4-mile journey through Southport's past with this month's walk:
"From Hesketh Park to Birkdale Park"
Starting outside the Albert Lodge in Hesketh Park, David will explore how the park was developed amongst the sandhills, before guiding us along Albert Road and Lord Street, sharing some of the lesser-known stories from Southport's rich history.
Along the way, you'll discover:
🏉 The house where the Australian Rugby Team once stayed
🏫 Where Neville Chamberlain attended boarding school
👑 The site of the alleged house rented by Napoleon III on Lord Street
📖 And many more fascinating stories from Southport's past
The walk finishes in Birkdale Park at the junction of Aughton Road and Lulworth Road, where we'll explore how this part of the town developed over time.

Join us for another enjoyable afternoon celebrating Southport's rich local history on Tuesday 25th August, from 1.30pm – 3.30pm at Southport Community Centre.
Whether you have old photographs, postcards, memorabilia, family stories or simply a love of local history, everyone is welcome!
We're delighted to have a fantastic afternoon planned, including:

We're delighted to help spread the word about these **FREE Heritage Walk Trails**, taking place across Sefton as part of the **Sefton at 50 – Hearts of Gold Heritage Lottery Project**.

Created by local volunteers, these community trails celebrate the people, places, and stories that have shaped Sefton, offering a fantastic opportunity to discover more about our local heritage while enjoying a guided walk.

📅 **Upcoming walks:**
🚶 **Tuesday 14th July** – Netherton (11.00am–1.00pm)
🚶 **Wednesday 15th July** – Formby (11.00am–1.00pm)
🚶 **Wednesday 4th August** – Bootle (11.00am–1.00pm)
