With Remembrance Sunday ahead, we’ve been decorating the windows at our Stokesley and Great Ayton branches with wartime photos and memorabilia. Thank you to everyone who has shared their precious items, taken time to view the window displays, and stopped by to say ‘Hello’.

We value the importance of remembrance, on both an individual and a community level. Preserving personal wartime memories is a direct insight into the sacrifices, courage and resilience of ordinary people whose lives were shaped by powerful historical events.

Here in our local community, these stories connect generations and strengthen our sense of shared history. They remind us that behind every photograph, there's an individual who was deeply loved by family and friends ❤️

🧡🍂 A gentle thought for anyone who is grieving this October.

For many people, Halloween is a time of fun, fancy dress and spooky celebrations. But for someone who is bereaved, this time of year can hit differently.

When images of coffins, bones, skeletons and death slip into everyday life, it can be a painful reminder of something that is deeply personal, and very real.

If you’re grieving, this can have an unexpected impact. You might feel sad, unsettled, overwhelmed, or find that emotions you thought you’d put aside come to the surface.

Please know that it’s OK to feel this way. You don’t have to brush those feelings aside, explain them to anyone, or feel obliged to join in with the festivities.

Grief is personal, and the world can be insensitive to the things that hurt us most. If Halloween felt difficult for you this year, you’re not alone. Others will understand, even if they don’t always say so.

Here at Rea Funeral Service, we recognise that behind every loss is a real person, with real relationships, and a love that doesn’t simply disappear. We see you, we respect what you’re going through, and we want you to know that your feelings matter.

Take things at your own pace, be gentle with yourself, and remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve 🧡

Honouring the wishes of a loved one who didn't 'want any fuss' can still include a heartfelt send off. We understand that a simple funeral doesn't mean a less meaningful Goodbye 🤍 However, we're also experienced in finding ways to make elaborate or highly personalised plans a reality 💖

We've arranged a rich variety of funerals over the years, and our goal is to get things just right for each individual family. Not just on the day, but during the initial preparation period, in the run up to the day, and afterwards too.

We're here to take the journey with you, and ensure it's always the best version of what you want.

This Remembrance Day, the Rea Funeral Service team would love to create a special window display honouring the brave local men and women who served during wartime.

We’re inviting our local community to share their war memorabilia, family photographs or other meaningful wartime keepsakes to help us create a display that brings these personal stories to life.

We want to pay homage to the sacrifices, courage and experiences of dear ones who lived through some of the most difficult chapters in our history.

We’d be honoured to include your family's memorabilia in our display. If you wish, we can also share the names and details of the loved ones pictured, helping to preserve their individual stories and ensure they are remembered by our wider community.

Please rest assured that every item entrusted to us will be treated with the greatest care and respect while in our keeping.

📍 Items can be dropped off at our premises in Stokesley (10 Three Tuns Wynd, TS9 5DQ) or Great Ayton (74 Newton Road, TS9 6DG).

🗓️ Please bring your items to us by Tuesday 3rd November at the very latest.

Remembrance Day is about more than looking back. It is about gratitude, understanding and ensuring that the courage and sacrifices of those who came before us are never forgotten.

November can bring on a quieter and more reflective mood 🍂🤎 The change of season reminds us of other changes that have occurred since this time last year.

Familiar autumn traditions can bring memories of people who are no longer here.

If that's you, be gentle with yourself. A memory appearing out of nowhere doesn't mean you're going backwards. Remembering is simply part of loving someone who mattered.

The sun was out in Stokesley this morning, but the weather is changing 🍃 Can you help local folks in need stay warm?

If you’re walking past our Stokesley branch at Three Tuns Wynd, you’ll see we’ve got a Rotary Club donation box in place. Please check in your wardrobe and find those coats you no longer wear. Every coat will go to a very grateful new owner!

The box will be outside Rea Funeral Service office until November 1st.

A recent article in the Funeral Service Journal caught our attention, highlighting a preference for using a local funeral director when arranging a funeral.

According to the featured research, 79% of people surveyed said they'd choose a local funeral director, with 70% preferring one that was also located close to their home.

For us, this is entirely understandable.

At Rea Funeral Service, we have a place within the local community. Our team all come from the area, and many of our staff are familiar faces within the communities around us. The owner, Michael Rea, is a third-generation local funeral director, continuing a family tradition of caring for families in the area.

Our local roots mean we understand the communities we serve: the places, the traditions and, importantly, the people. After all, 'being local' isn't just about having a branch in the area. It's about being part of the local fabric.
