Don’t put your bowel screening kit to one side

Since bowel cancer screening started in England in 2006, it has helped find around 70,000 bowel cancers. It is estimated to save up to 2,400 lives each year.

If you’re aged 50 to 74, you’ll usually receive a screening kit through the post every two years. It only needs one small sample and can be completed at home.

Screening can pick up bowel cancer before you have any symptoms, when it is often easier to treat. It can also find polyps that could become cancer in the future.

So, when your kit arrives, please complete it and send it back. It could save your life.

If you have symptoms that could be bowel cancer, please contact your GP rather than waiting for a screening kit.

🐾 Today is International Dog Day!

Dogs can support our health and wellbeing in several ways:

😊 Spending time with a dog may help reduce stress and improve mood

🕒 Caring for a pet can provide routine, purpose and structure to the day

Many of these benefits can also come from sharing our lives with other pets.

Millions of women in England are to be offered HPV self-testing kits as the new service rolls out from today.

The kits will be offered to those who haven’t attended cervical screening following previous invitations, providing a discreet and convenient way to test for high-risk HPV at home.

Autumn Vaccination & Health Clinics 2026

Our autumn Flu and COVID vaccination clinics are coming soon at Leatside Surgery.

If you’re eligible, we’ll be contacting you by text, email or phone to invite you to book. The quickest and easiest way to book is using the link we send you.

If you’re unable to use the booking link, our dedicated vaccination line is open Tuesday–Friday, 2pm–4pm. Call the surgery and select option 4.

Dear Patient,

We have been informed by one of our vaccine suppliers that, due to a national manufacturing and supply issue, our original flu vaccine order for the 2026/27 season has been cancelled. This issue is outside our control and is affecting thousands of GP surgeries across the country.

We have acted quickly and successfully secured flu vaccine stock from an alternative supplier. We will therefore still be able to offer flu vaccination to all our eligible patients. However, the replacement vaccines will arrive slightly later than originally planned.

Our revised flu clinic dates are:
▪️Wednesday 21st October
▪️Thursday 22nd October
▪️Wednesday 4th November
The clinics previously planned for 7 and 14 October will no longer take place.

Around 200 patients have already booked appointments on these dates. If you are one of them will contact you directly to rearrange your appointment.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. Although the supply problem is beyond our control, our team has responded quickly to secure replacement vaccines and ensure that all our eligible patients can still receive their flu vaccination this autumn.
