๐Ÿƒ Achilles Tendinopathy โ€“ More Than Just Heel Pain

Your Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in your body, helping you walk, run, jump and climb stairs.

When it's overloaded, it can become painful and stiffโ€”a condition known as Achilles tendinopathy.

Common signs include:
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Pain or stiffness at the back of the heel, especially first thing in the morning.
๐Ÿƒ Pain that eases as you warm up but returns afterwards.
๐Ÿฆถ Tenderness or swelling along the tendon.
โšก Pain during or after exercise.

Many people think complete rest is the answer, but in most cases, the tendon responds best to the right balance of load and rehabilitation rather than doing nothing.

Our sports therapist Lauren assess the cause of your symptoms and create a personalised treatment plan to help you recover safely and get back to doing what you enjoy.

Don't ignore Achilles painโ€”it rarely settles on its own.

Tendinitis: what is it, and how can we help? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

Weโ€™re seeing quite a few cases of tendinitis at the clinic at the moment, so we thought weโ€™d explain a little more about what it actually is.

Tendinitis is irritation and inflammation of a tendon โ€” the strong bands of tissue that connect muscles to bones. It can develop when a tendon is exposed to more load than it is currently able to tolerate, particularly with repetitive activity or a sudden increase in training.

It can affect tendons throughout the body, including the:

๐Ÿ“ Achilles tendon โ€” ankle/heel
๐Ÿ“ Patellar tendon โ€” knee
๐Ÿ“ Rotator cuff tendons โ€” shoulder
๐Ÿ“ Tennis/golferโ€™s elbow tendons โ€” elbow
๐Ÿ“ Wrist and hand tendons
๐Ÿ“ Hamstring tendons
๐Ÿ“ Gluteal tendons โ€” hip

So, what can our Sports Therapist do?

During the more irritable stage, the priority is often to reduce aggravating activities and allow the tendon to settle.

Once the initial inflammation and irritation has calmed, treatment can focus on why the tendon became overloaded in the first place.

Your Sports Therapist may use:
No
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Progressive strengthening to build tendon capacity
๐ŸŽฏ Exercise prescription tailored to your activity or sport
๐Ÿ‘ Hands-on treatment where appropriate
๐Ÿƒ Advice on gradually returning to training and activity
๐Ÿ“ˆ Guidance on managing training load and avoiding sudden spikes in activity
๐Ÿ”Ž Assessment of movement, strength and contributing factors

The aim isn't simply to get you out of pain โ€” it's to help the tendon become **stronger and better able to cope with the demands you're placing on it.**

If youโ€™re experiencing persistent tendon pain, speak to our Sports Therapist for an assessment and personalised advice.

*If you have significant swelling, sudden loss of function, or a sudden โ€œpopโ€ associated with your pain, seek appropriate medical assessment.*

๐Ÿ‘ Meet the Piriformis!

This small muscle sits deep in your glutes, but it can cause surprisingly big problems.

When the piriformis becomes tight or irritated, it may contribute to:
โ€ข Pain deep in the buttock
โ€ข Discomfort when sitting for long periods
โ€ข Pain that travels down the back of the leg (sometimes similar to sciatica)
โ€ข Reduced hip mobility

The good news? Not all glute or leg pain comes from your back. A thorough assessment can help identify the true cause, so you receive the right treatment.

At our clinic, our sports therapist Lauren assess the whole picture before creating a treatment plan that may include hands-on therapy, rehabilitation exercises and advice to help you move more comfortably.

๐Ÿ“ฉ If you're struggling with hip, glute or leg pain, get in touch to see how we can help.

"Do I have to talk during my massage?"

Is a question our holistic therapist Lisa is often asked

The simple answer is... no.

For some people, a massage is a chance to chat and unwind. For others, it's the only hour in their week where no one is asking anything of them.

At Lisa's treatment room, there is no expectation to keep a conversation going.

After your consultation, if all you want to do is close your eyes, breathe deeply and enjoy the peace and quiet, that's absolutely okay.

This is your time.

A chance to switch off from work, family life, notifications and the constant mental load that so many of us carry every day.

Many clients tell Lisa they didn't realise how much they needed an hour of complete calm until they experienced it.

Whether you drift off to sleep, let your mind wander or simply enjoy the stillness, you'll be welcomed into a warm, relaxing space where your wellbeing comes first.

Because sometimes, healing doesn't come from finding the right words...

Sometimes, it comes from finding a moment of silence. ๐Ÿ’š

If you've been longing for a little peace, Lisa is here to help you find it.

It's Not Just Your Muscles That Need Attention

Have you ever felt exhausted, anxious or overwhelmed, even though you've had a full night's sleep?

Do you feel like you're constantly "on"?

Your nervous system could be asking for help.

When we're under prolonged stress, our bodies can stay in fight-or-flight mode. Over time, this can leave us feeling tense, restless, emotional, unable to sleep and disconnected from ourselves.

Massage isn't just about easing tight muscles.

A holistic massage can help encourage your body to slow down, supporting your nervous system to move into a calmer, more restorative state where true relaxation can begin.

Lisa's treatments are tailored to you as an individual. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, menopause symptoms, poor sleep or simply the pressures of everyday life, her aim is to help you leave feeling calmer, lighter and more like yourself again.

Sometimes the greatest healing begins when your body finally feels safe enough to relax.

๐ŸŒฟ Book your appointment with Lisa and give your nervous system the care it deserves.
