Happy South Asian Heritage Month! 😊

This month is a reminder to honour and celebrate the people, culture and contributions within our community, including the volunteers and customers we have had the privilege of serving over the years.

Your dedication and support are the reasons why our work feels so meaningful. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey, with a special shout-out to our volunteer Sameer for his hard work.

To those who want to travel with limited mobility… but don't know where to start.

You may feel anxious to go out because you worry about how others may perceive you. You’re hesitant to navigate public spaces due to inaccessibility. Or you wish to maintain social connections without the burden.

The truth is, the more you avoid, the easier it becomes to say ‘no’.
You don't have to figure everything out on your own. That’s where our support begins.

For instance, meet Gay, our customer who recently hired a mobility scooter to watch the iconic Iron Maiden last weekend at Knebworth.

Your non-negotiable tips for keeping cool this heatwave 😎

🌡️ If possible, schedule outdoor activities outside the hours of 11 am to 3 pm when temperatures peak.

👗 Avoid dark-coloured clothing and opt for lighter colours, which help to limit heat absorption

♿ Make use of our drop-off points around Uxbridge to reduce the time spent walking outdoors. Whether it's at the station or on the High Street, let us know and we can arrange this for you.

That’s a wrap! 👏

Our annual AGM meeting took place yesterday to discuss the progress of Hillingdon ShopMobility over the past year and proposed ideas on how to further improve the charity so we can continue serving our members of the community.

It was also a pleasure to see some familiar faces, Harry and Marlene, who recently retired from volunteering after dedicating their time and effort in helping us over the years.

Three years ago today, we reopened our doors. 🎉

After a pandemic-related closure, Hillingdon Shopmobility returned on 3 July 2023 — now run entirely by volunteers. We’re very proud to still be here, and to be one of only a few original outlets that remain in The Chimes.

Three years on, we’re still going strong, thanks to all of you who have supported us along the way.

Here’s to another three years and beyond 💙
