"Oh.. you're an occupational therapist?" So you teach people how to basket weave?"

Once upon a time this was one of the most common responses. Fast forward to today, and thankfully, the conversation has changed.

OT's help people rebuild their lives after stroke, adapt to disability, recover from injury, manage long term conditions such as MND, Parkinson's, Fibromyalgia etc, support mental health, keep older adults independent, offer care home and care providers, staff training, help and support people back to work.

Funny how one outdated stereotype managed to over shadow a profession that has always been about helping people live meaningful lives.

Here's hoping we've finally woven that old stereotype into history.
