This is one of our largest installations - a 10-step retracting lift designed to disappear seamlessly when not in use.

The engineering behind it has been carefully refined to perfection, allowing it to operate smoothly and reliably, running like clockwork.

Our Sesame Access lifts currently achieve a 99.7% reliability rate, reflecting the precision and consistency built into every system we deliver.

Steep steps at the entrance, heavy doors, narrow thresholds - all of these can quietly exclude people from participating in services, events, and community life.

For wheelchair users, older visitors, or parents with pushchairs, what should feel like a welcoming space can become an obstacle course.

That’s exactly the challenge many churches are facing, and why we’ve installed multiple invisible, retracting lifts in churches across the UK. These solutions open up historic buildings while working within listed building requirements and preserving the character and aesthetics of the architecture.

At Sesame Access, we design solutions that ensure everyone can enter with dignity. Learn more: https://www.sesameaccess.com/

We’re proud to share our work at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula within the Tower of London, a 500-year-old landmark, where we designed and installed a fully retracting, “invisible” stairlift system to deliver step-free access for wheelchair users.

Working closely with Historic Royal Palaces and a wider team of conservation specialists, we designed and installed a solution that delivers step-free access while carefully preserving the chapel’s extraordinary heritage and meeting the strict requirements of a Scheduled Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Heritage environments like this are among the most complex we work in. The Chapel Royal is not only architecturally significant, but also deeply layered with history - a place of worship, remembrance, and the final resting place of Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, and Lady Jane Grey. Every detail matters, and every intervention must be reversible, discreet, and respectful.

That’s exactly where our retracting stairlift system comes into its own. When not in use, it disappears into the architecture, allowing the building to remain visually unchanged while ensuring wheelchair users can move through the space safely and independently when needed.

This project also marks our 420th installation worldwide - a milestone that reflects nearly three decades of collaboration with architects, engineers, and conservation teams to make access possible where it once wasn’t.

What a night for Sesame Access! 🏆

We are delighted to share that last night we took home not one, but two awards at the Family Business Awards.

Sesame was proud to be named Manufacturing Family Business of the Year 2026 and was also awarded runner-up in the Societal Impact Family Business of the Year 2026 category.

As a family business, we're passionate about celebrating not only our own journey, but also the achievements of family businesses across the UK. It was wonderful to spend the evening with so many inspiring people and hear the stories behind their success.

One of the highlights of the night was hearing this speech from Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of The Family Business Awards, as he announced Sesame as the winner of Manufacturing Family Business of the Year.

His words beautifully captured the ethos that has guided Sesame since Charlie Lyons founded the company in 1996: the belief that historic and beautiful buildings should be accessible to everyone, and that innovation can preserve architectural heritage while improving access. To hear our story told with such understanding and appreciation was incredibly special ❤️

Thank you to The Family Business Awards for this recognition, and congratulations to all the finalists and winners!

Our Sesame Engineer, John, swapped access solutions for adventure this weekend as he helped run a family Scout camp for 160 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venture Scouts and their families.

What an achievement, and a fantastic example of giving back to the community.

To top it all off, John returned with cake for the Sesame team. Safe to say it went down very well! 🍰

At Sesame Access, we're proud to have talented people who make a difference both inside and outside of work.

Our Purchasing Manager, Giles, is also a Scout Leader. This week, he shared his passion for engineering and design with his Scout group, teaching them about electrical circuits, problem-solving, and how engineering principles apply to the robotics and technology they love.

The Scouts' feedback was inspiring - many said engineering was much more logical and easier to understand than they had expected.

Who knows? Perhaps we've helped spark the curiosity of some future engineers! 😊
