This day was established in 2015 to mark the tragic anniversary of 13,000 sheep losing their lives in a live export disaster. Each year, we come together to remember them, and to shine a light on a trade that continues to cause immense suffering.
Two years ago, Great Britain banned live exports for fattening and slaughter following a decades-long campaign. This landmark victory showed what is possible when we work together with determination and compassion. It simply would not have happened without the commitment of supporters like you.
However, the global picture has not yet changed. Around the world, animals are still transported for long distances, often enduring overcrowding, exhaustion, hunger, and heat stress. We must continue to call on decision makers to act.

The UK and other countries have launched an Open Letter to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), calling for stronger global guidance on animal transport. Please help to get as many people as possible to sign this letter.

I’ve signed this Open Letter calling on animal health representatives to update global transport standards and bring about an end to long distance transport. This cruel trade must change.

HERBAL MEDICINE CLUB
First session Thursday 11th June

At The Dispensary, 25 Skinner
Street, Whitby.
Herbal Medicine Club is a monthly session led by a qualified
medical herbalist, designed for anyone interested in learning more about the healing properties of plants. Each month we explore one herb in depth — learning how to identify it botanically, discovering its traditional uses, folklore, and history, and understanding how it has been used in herbal medicine through the ages.

These monthly sessions will include tasting lots of different preparations using the chosen herb of the month. The workshop offers a relaxed and welcoming environment where people can deepen their knowledge of medicinal plants, connect with seasonal plant wisdom, and gain confidence using herbs safely in everyday life.

Come along learn about herbs and connect with like-minded people – all whilst sipping herbal tea!

Open to all, the whole session will be seated on chairs.

We will practice some gentle breathing exercises, stretching, breath centred movements, Yoga Mudra and deep guided relaxation.

June 10th Join us in celebrating 10 years of the wonderful charity Crustacean Compassion, who tirelessly campaign to improve the welfare of decapod crustaceans such lobsters, crabs and langoustines ( scampi) , they have achieved such a lot in that decade, but there's still more to do, take a look at their website for ways you can help!

How we have misunderstood you
Melissa, Messenger of the light,
The Honeybee.

Several times over the last couple of weeks there have been seagulls trapped in the netting on the roof of Sainsbury's in Whitby and a nearby store that also has netting on the roof. Please keep an eye out for trapped birds and alert a manager in store if you see one, they are not always aware immediately of birds in distress. You can also contact Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary if you are worried about the welfare of any wild bird or animal.
