‘Risca, Go Away.’
As a Responsible Individual, being told to go away via a communication device is actually one of the highlights of my job.

Why? Because if I stop to chat with this young person and her support team, I’m interrupting her plans. A couple of years ago, expressing that frustration might have looked like behaviors that challenge. Today, thanks to Proloquo2Go and behavior science, she uses her device to tell me directly—and now she even tolerates waiting a few extra minutes while we finish up.

That isn't just communication; it's independence, agency, and self-advocacy.
If we only focus on stopping challenging behaviors, we miss the point entirely. True, lasting impact comes from teaching functional replacement skills. When we replace a difficult behavior with a functional alternative, we aren't just managing a session—we are giving someone a voice they can use for the rest of their life.

Everyone deserves a voice, and we need to teach it. Here is why this work drives our team every single day:
* We focus on dignity first, we listen to the need behind the behavior and give people the tools to express it.
* We build real-world independence: AAC devices, picture cards, and coping mechanisms transform how individuals navigate their world.
* We celebrate every breakthrough: From a simple "go away" to complex requests, every moment of self-expression is a victory for the people we support (and a huge milestone for us).

Ready to do work that actually matters, to make a real difference by teaching important skills?
We’re looking for compassionate, dedicated professionals who want to move past basic behavior management and step into meaningful, transformative support. If you want to help people find their voice and build skills that change lives, we’d love to talk to you.

Posted on behalf of a lovely family that we provide some clinical support to.

PA needed for our lovely little boy

We’re looking for someone to help care for our blossoming young boy with additional learning needs (undiagnosed autism) — but more than that, we’re looking for someone who wants to properly get to know him and become a consistent, trusted person in his life.

He is a high energy 5 year old boy who loves being outdoors, on the bike / trampoline, and water play. He needs assistance with toileting, dressing, and prompting with food, though he can feed himself. He is currently non-verbal and can find communication complicated.

Work would involve social and community-based activities to develop his personal and social skills, alongside learning from the professionals involved in his care, including speech and language and applied behaviour analysis.

This role is as much about relationship as it is about care. We want someone who will notice and celebrate his progress, however small, who brings genuine patience, and who’s looking to commit to this role for the medium-to-long term.

Candidate must be able to drive, be willing to learn new skills, and be physically active and able to keep pace with a boy who’s constantly on the move — trampoline, bike rides, and outdoor play are a big part of his day.

Location: Bwlchygroes (nr Crymych), north Pembrokeshire
Rate: £13.45/hour / self employed rate: £19.98/hour
Hours: 4 hrs/week term time (45 miles @ 45p/mile), 8 hrs/week school holidays (90 miles @ 45p/mile)
Availability needed: weekends, primarily Saturday mornings, flexible during holidays

I had such a lovely time out in Llanfallteg the other day with Dan and my children 🌳💚 The community of Llanfallteg have been so welcoming to many of our individuals, that I wanted to try it out for ourselves!
One of the things I absolutely love about Llanfallteg Park is that it never seems to stand still! The local community just keep adding to it, improving it and thinking about what else they can do to make this little park even more special.
And the latest addition really is something special… a fantastic outdoor drum! 🥁✨
It’s such a brilliant piece of sensory equipment — accessible, interactive and something that can be enjoyed in so many different ways. Dan certainly enjoyed giving it a go!
What I particularly love is that this isn’t just a one-off investment. Over time, the Llanfallteg community have continued to develop the park, adding equipment and creating a space that feels genuinely cared for. You can see the thought, effort and community spirit that has gone into it.
After exploring the latest additions, we headed along the walking path just behind the park. If you’ve never done that little walk, it’s definitely worth it — beautiful, peaceful countryside and a lovely extension to a trip to the park. 🌳🌄
A huge well done to everyone in Llanfallteg who keeps making this space better and better. It’s a wonderful example of what can happen when a community really gets behind something. 💚
And we’ll definitely be back to see what you add next! 🥁🙌

Our care farm setup plays such a massive role in the support we provide at Skybound. Interacting with animals isn't just a fun afternoon outdoors—research consistently shows that interacting with animals lowers cortisol (stress) levels, improves emotional regulation, and significantly reduces anxiety. Working alongside the animals allows the young people we support to connect on a completely different level, offering a grounding, calming environment where confidence can naturally grow.
Beyond the therapeutic perks, studies on care farming highlight how hands-on agricultural activities build essential vocational skills—teaching responsibility, routine, and practical experience that set up young people for an independent future. 🌾✨
It’s incredible to see the quiet, steady progress that happens when patience meets an evidence-backed environment.
Want to be part of moments like this? Working with us means helping young people discover their potential in unique, rewarding settings every single day. If you’re ready to bring your energy and empathy to a team that makes a real impact, we’d love to hear from you! 💙

From taking hours of patient support just to build up the courage to get out of the car, to confidently taking charge in the kitchen and baking up a storm—look at him go! 🍪✨
When this amazing young person first joined us at Skybound with our Community Care team last year, even stepping out into a new environment was a massive hurdle. Fast forward to today at Plas Seren, and he’s thriving, fully engaged, and showing us all what true progress looks like.
Moments like this are a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Real growth doesn't happen overnight; it takes time, trust, empathy, and a team dedicated to celebrating every single win along the way—no matter how small it might seem at first.
Seeing transformations like this is easily the best part of working here. It’s about building meaningful connections and helping young people rewrite what's possible for their futures. 💙
Want to make a real difference every day? If you're looking for a role where your patience and care actively change lives, we’d love to have you on our team.

Today, a young person we support was absolutely mesmerised, peering over the fence to watch Stuart from SRM Fencing in action.
There’s something powerful about watching a skilled tradesperson at work, and we could practically see the gears turning as he watched the post driver do its thing.
Watching him take it all in reminds us that opportunity and inspiration are all around us. We aren’t just building fences; we’re fostering curiosity and paving the way for limitless futures. Seeing that spark of interest makes it all worthwhile. ✨
We have to give a huge shout out to Stuart at S.R.M Fencing. Not only is he busy securing our site and doing all our fencing, but he also creates these little moments of learning. We truly appreciate the hard work, the incredible skill, and the positive impact you have when you're here. Thank you, Stuart! 👏🚧

At Skybound Therapies, we know that when a child is taught communication skills to gain access to as much choice in their environment as they can, they aren't just participating; they are thriving. By placing voice, choice, and control at the centre of every session, we move away from "directing" the therapy journey and toward partnering with the child. When children are truly heard and understood, they aren't just meeting goals—they are building a life that feels authentic to them. 🩵

It feels like just yesterday we opened the doors to Plas Seren, but incredibly, we are now celebrating almost six months of this journey! 🏡✨
When we started, our mission was simple yet ambitious: to create a dedicated, safe haven for children with complex needs—a place where they could feel truly at home, build essential life skills, and stay connected to their communities. And seeing where we are today? It’s nothing short of inspiring.
From the first settling-in sessions to celebrating those "firsts"—whether it’s learning a new communication tool, mastering a daily living skill, or simply feeling safe and comfortable in a new environment—we’ve witnessed so much growth, resilience, and pure joy.
But today, we want to shine a light on the heart of Plas Seren: our incredible team.
To the staff who show up every single day with patience, adaptability, and unwavering compassion: THANK YOU. You are the reason this home is a haven. You don’t just "do the job"—you build relationships, you create opportunities for independence, and you teach functional skills that truly change lives. You make the "hard stuff" look manageable because you care so deeply about the young people we support.
This isn’t just a residential home. It’s a community. It’s a place where children feel seen, understood, and supported to be their best selves.
We’re so proud of the progress made over these first six months, and we are just getting started. Here’s to the moments of belonging, the development of confidence, and the bright future ahead.
Thank you for being part of our story. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings! ❤️🌟

It’s the little things that bring the big feels.

Early this morning I was walking to check some of the animals, when I came across a young man from our onsite children’s residential respite service, sat peacefully under a tree with two team members just enjoying the morning sunshine.
I turned a corner and one of the adults we support in our community care service was there - with only 1 staff member (huge achievement) - smiling away.
And round the next bend was Dan (who inspired this all), with his personal assistant, feeding the goats.
Then a text pings in from a parent, with a photo of her young man, with one of our new team members, to tell me how their day was going.
I get back to my desk (yes today is an office catch up day for me) and the quality assurance surveys, that were sent out late afternoon yesterday, have started coming in from professionals and parents and that was enough for the happy tears to flow!
Here on a farm, in the far west of Wales, we are combining science with care delivered by the most incredibly compassionate and resilient team, for some of the most vulnerable and challenging individuals who really do deserve the very best.

CAN WE GET SOME APPLAUSE FOR THIS?! 👏🎉
A successful trip to the hairdresser might seem like an everyday event, but for some of the young people we support, it can represent a HUGE achievement. 💙
Haircuts can bring sensory challenges, unfamiliar sounds and sensations, waiting, transitions and lots of uncertainty. So when we see a young person feeling safe, comfortable and proud in the hairdresser’s chair, we know just how much work has gone into getting there.
But there’s another really important part of this story too… community connections. 🌍❤️
At Skybound, we want to help build a wider community around the people we support — a network of people who know them, understand them and are willing to make those small adaptations that can make everyday experiences possible.
That might be a hairdresser who understands that an appointment needs to look a little different. 💇‍♂️ A dentist who is happy to build familiarity over several visits. 🦷 A local café that gets to know someone's usual order. A shopkeeper who recognises a familiar face. Or people within our local community who simply take the time to understand.
These relationships matter.
They create opportunities for belonging, independence and genuine community participation — and they help build a world around the people we support that is bigger than Skybound.
Today, a HUGE thank you goes to Emma Luke who absolutely brought her A-game. 👏 Her patience, adaptability and gentleness made all the difference.
This isn't just about getting a haircut.
It's about building confidence, developing relationships and creating a community of people who say, “We can make this work for you.” 💙
And that's something worth celebrating! 🚀✨
