At Next Step, our person-centred programme is packed with fun activities, new experiences, and opportunities to build confidence every day.

While we love having fun together, our activities also help our members maintain and develop their independence through everyday decision-making and life skills. Whether it's finding items in the supermarket, helping to pack and pay for shopping, or choosing and ordering a drink in a café, each experience provides valuable opportunities to learn and grow.

We believe that every day brings new chances to develop skills, build confidence, and achieve greater independence — all while having fun with friends.

It's been a week full of birthday celebrations! 🎉🎂

Yesterday we celebrated one of our members' special days with plenty of cake, dancing and lots of smiles. Today it was time to celebrate another birthday, and thanks to a generous donation from their family, we enjoyed a fantastic trip to the bowling alley followed by lunch together.

There was plenty of friendly competition on the lanes, lots of laughter and some impressive bowling skills on display! 🎳 The day was topped off with more birthday cake as we celebrated together with friends.

A huge thank you to the family for helping make the day so special. 💙

To celebrate National Gingerbread Day tomorrow, we got busy in the kitchen baking our own delicious gingerbread shapes! 🍪

Using a recipe we discovered during a visit to a recent National Trust property, we worked together to weigh, measure and mix all the ingredients. Everyone enjoyed choosing their own shapes, including stars, flowers and circles, before popping them into the oven.

The smell of freshly baked gingerbread filled the kitchen and made the whole session even more enjoyable. A fantastic activity that combined teamwork, baking skills and plenty of fun! 😊

Yesterday we made the most of our National Trust membership with a visit to Wightwick Manor & Gardens. 🌿🌸

We had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful gardens, stopping to smell the colourful flowers and discovering the different vegetables and herbs growing in the kitchen garden. We were lucky with the weather too, which meant we could enjoy our lunch outside together on the picnic benches. ☀️🥪

It was a lovely day spent outdoors, enjoying nature, learning about different plants, and sharing time with friends.

Start the day well with a good breakfast! 🍽️

Recently, we enjoyed breakfast together to round off a fantastic week. We toasted bagels and chose our favourite toppings before sitting down together to enjoy them, all washed down with a hot drink of our choice. ☕🥯

Activities like these are about so much more than the food. From making choices and preparing our own breakfast to developing independence and confidence in the kitchen, we're building valuable life skills while having fun with friends. And of course, enjoying the tasty reward at the end makes it even better! 😊

This week is National Cheese Day and we celebrated in the best way we know how – with some delicious homemade favourites! 🧀

Our Monday lunch session was all about teamwork in the kitchen as we worked together to prepare and cook a tasty cheese and potato pie, served with bacon and fresh vegetables. For pudding, we enjoyed a yummy cheesecake that went down a treat!

From peeling and chopping to mixing and baking, everyone played their part in creating a fantastic lunch. The best part was sitting down together to enjoy the food we had made, sharing plenty of laughs, friendship and good conversation along the way.

Another wonderful morning of cooking, learning new skills and making memories together. 💙

Last week we made the most of the glorious weather with a visit to Trentham Estate and their beautiful gardens. ☀️🌳

We split into groups and enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake, taking in the beautiful scenery and spotting different wildlife, trees, plants and flowers along the way. It was wonderful to spend time outdoors exploring somewhere new with friends.

At lunchtime we met back up to enjoy our packed lunches and share stories about everything we had seen. Before heading home, we had a browse around the shops, which was the perfect way to finish off a fantastic day.
Another brilliant adventure, making memories, enjoying nature and spending time with friends. 😊

A huge thank you to the family who recently donated a basketball game to the group. 🏀

Our members have had a fantastic time playing with it and it’s safe to say things have become very competitive! There has been lots of laughter, encouragement and teamwork, with members even asking to create a leaderboard to keep track of the high scores. 😊

A little bit of friendly competition is good for us all and it’s been wonderful seeing everyone cheering each other on and having fun together. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity.

Yesterday we had a fantastic time visiting the West Midlands Police Museum in Birmingham for their Fashion Police exhibition. We loved exploring the old cells and learning how they have changed over time. Our members enjoyed having their fingerprints taken and trying on different police uniforms too. 🚓👮

The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, making sure everyone had a fun-filled and interactive experience throughout the day. Another brilliant trip spent learning, exploring and making memories together. 😊

We are always so grateful for the kindness and generosity of our families. Recently we’ve been lucky enough to receive some lovely donations which our members have really enjoyed sharing together.

We added delicious samosas and spring rolls from Jolly Catering to one of our picnics, enjoyed tasty pakoras after swimming and then cooled down with some lovely ice creams in this beautiful weather. 🍦☀️

It’s wonderful seeing everyone come together, try different foods and enjoy special treats with friends. Thank you to everyone who continues to support us with donations — your kindness really does make such a difference. 💛

Keep your eyes peeled for a fantastic game we’ve had donated and some exciting new additions to our sensory garden too 😊
