Why does the SAME enzyme peel ball up completely differently on different people? 👀✨

It’s ridiculously satisfying to watch, but there’s actually a reason everyone’s skin looks a little different.

Here I’m using the Instant Painless Peel, a gentle enzyme exfoliation that helps loosen and lift superficial dead skin cells and surface build-up without relying on a gritty physical scrub.

At MPower Clinic, I don’t offer this as a standalone treatment. Instead, I use it as an extra skin-preparation step before selected treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels.

Why? Because excess dead skin and surface build-up can create an unnecessary barrier. Removing this first gives me a cleaner, smoother canvas before moving on to the main treatment ✨

But back to the satisfying bit… why does one person barely pill while another creates SO much? 👀

The amount of visible balling can vary depending on what’s sitting on and happening within the skin’s surface, including oil, hydration, texture, skincare products and superficial build-up.

And it’s something I notice all the time in clinic.

Those who are really consistent with their skincare and exfoliation will often have much less visible pilling.

Whereas when someone’s routine has slipped for a while, life has been busy, they’ve been unwell, or skincare has simply taken a back seat, we tend to see considerably more.

It’s not a perfect measure of “how much dead skin you have” (some of what you’re seeing is the product itself pilling), but it’s a great visual demonstration of just how differently skin can behave from one person to the next.

Same product. Same technique. Very different skin. 🩺🤍

GTA 2 was released in 1999. GTA 6 is finally coming out.

If you were around for the original, some of those expression lines may have had enough time to become permanent creases 🎮⏳

Repeated facial movement causes the skin to fold in the same places over and over again. Eventually, those dynamic lines can become static, meaning they’re still visible even when your face is completely relaxed.

And once a crease is deeply etched, simply reducing the muscle movement may not be enough to completely smooth it.

For this patient, we took a two-step approach:
1️⃣ Reduce the movement First, we addressed the underlying muscle activity responsible for repeatedly folding the skin, helping to prevent the crease from continually deepening.

2️⃣ Treat the remaining static crease A tiny amount of carefully placed dermal filler was then used to soften the residual indentation and restore support beneath the etched line.

The forehead is a high-risk anatomical area for filler, with important blood vessels running through it, so this isn’t a treatment I undertake casually. Careful patient selection, detailed anatomical knowledge and precise technique are essential 🩺

The aim? Not a frozen or filled forehead. Just a softer crease while keeping him looking completely like himself.

Because apparently GTA 6 arrived before that forehead line was going to disappear on its own 😂🎮

When raised skin lesions constantly catch on clothing and jewellery, the biggest transformation isn't just aesthetic, sometimes it’s simply the relief of it no longer being there! ✨

This raised, pedunculated intradermal naevus was treated using targeted medical cryotherapy.

Using precise, controlled freezing, the lesion is destroyed while minimising damage to the surrounding healthy skin. Over the following weeks, the treated tissue gradually dries, scabs and naturally sheds as the area heals.

And this before & after is just 1 month apart 🙌

No more snagging on clothing.
No more catching on jewellery.
No more pulling or everyday irritation.

Most importantly, removal is never the first step at MPower Clinic. Every skin lesion is clinically assessed before treatment to determine whether it appears suitable for removal or whether further investigation or referral is needed 🩺🤍

Small lesion. Big difference to everyday comfort.

When nose filler goes wrong, experience matters 🚨

A vascular occlusion is a rare but serious complication of dermal filler, occurring when filler enters or compresses a blood vessel and compromises blood flow.

Importantly, it can happen even in experienced hands.

Years of experience, anatomical knowledge, careful technique and safety precautions minimise risk - but can never make it zero.

In this case, the signs weren't immediately obvious. What initially looked like a simple bruise made me uncertain, so rather than sending my patient home, I kept them in clinic for monitoring.

Over 60 minutes, despite heat and massage, capillary refill became sluggish, purple net-like discolouration appeared and the vascular compromise became apparent.

I treated immediately with hyaluronidase.

As a medical doctor, I can prescribe and stock this prescription-only emergency medication in clinic, meaning there was no delay sourcing treatment. Early intervention restored blood flow before irreversible tissue damage occurred. My patient made a full recovery, with multiple reviews and daily check-ins.

But managing a complication isn't just about having hyaluronidase.

My medical background includes hospital on-calls, leading resuscitation teams, Advanced Life Support and training doctors/healthcare professionals to manage medical emergencies.

It's human nature to panic or freeze in an emergency. Repeated experience teaches you to remain calm, recognise deterioration and act decisively under pressure.

It's also why I leave buffer time around higher-risk procedures. If I'm concerned about a patient, they become my priority - I won't rush them out because my next appointment is waiting.

Nose, lip, tear trough and temple filler all carry high vascular risks.

A short aesthetics course can teach someone how to inject filler. It cannot replicate years of medical training and experience managing real-time emergencies.

So don't just ask:
“Do I like their results?”

Ask:
“If I'm the rare patient who develops a serious complication, are they the person I want managing it?”

MPower Clinic is ONE! 🥹🎂✨

One year ago today, the website went live, bookings opened and MPower Clinic officially became real.

But the idea started long before that, on a night shift in hospital, when the name MPower first came to me.

After already working in medical aesthetics, I knew I wanted to create a clinic of my own, but I never wanted it to be all about me. I could have called it “Dr Mäla Aesthetics”, but I wanted the name to represent the people I was creating it for.

The M came from Mäla, but MPower came from the ethos behind the clinic: to empower people to feel confident in themselves, while still looking like themselves.

And from that little idea, MPower Clinic grew 🥹

A year later, I sometimes have to remind myself how much has happened.

MPower has evolved enormously, but its principles haven’t changed: medicine first, no pressure to have treatments you don’t need, natural results, safety and long-term outcomes over short-lived trends, and always taking the time to genuinely get to know the person sitting in my chair.

To everyone who supported MPower from those first weeks, thank you for putting your trust in me and the clinic I was creating 🤍

To every patient who has returned, recommended me, left a review, shared a post or simply told a friend about us, you have helped build MPower into what it is today.

And to the wonderful people and businesses I work alongside who have supported me, celebrated the wins and become my little work family, thank you 🫶

There have been long days, late nights and plenty of learning curves, but also so many moments where I’ve stopped in awe and thought, I actually built this.

And that feels pretty special.

One year down, and we’re only just getting started.

Maybe by our five-year anniversary I’ll be writing this from MPower’s very own flagship clinic, with an expanded team around me… 👀✨ A girl can dream, although this year has taught me those dreams have a funny way of becoming plans.

Happy 1st Birthday, MPower Clinic 🥂🎂

Thank you for helping turn an idea from a hospital night shift into something very real 🤍

A little clinic maintenance for that under-eye refresh and overall skin glow! 💧✨

Polynucleotides under the eyes are my go-to for repairing delicate skin, softening fine lines, and restoring tired under-eyes at a cellular level. Paired with skin boosters placed strategically using the BAP technique, it gives the entire face deep, long-lasting hydration and that fresh, lit-from-within finish.

As a doctor, keeping my own skin barrier strong, hydrated, and glowing with regenerative treatments isn't just self-care, it’s proving just how powerful these treatments truly are 🩺🤍

Nothing beats natural, healthy skin longevity 🫶

When the documentary crew inevitably asks why I’m treating my own skin in the clinic mirror 🤭🎬

1️⃣ I believe in what I do.
I only offer treatments at MPower Clinic that I genuinely trust and would be happy to have myself. Treatments such as skin boosters and polynucleotides form part of my own approach to maintaining long-term skin quality.

2️⃣ I’m very selective about what I self-treat.
Being medically qualified doesn’t mean every treatment is appropriate to perform on yourself. I’ll self-treat with certain skin rejuvenation injectables where I can do so safely, but there are procedures, such as dermal filler, that I would always have performed by another appropriately qualified practitioner.

3️⃣ Self-treatment is not DIY aesthetics.
It still requires medical training, anatomical knowledge, sterile technique, appropriate product selection and, most importantly, the clinical judgement to recognise your own limitations.

So when Netflix inevitably comes knocking, I’ll be ready to defend myself 🤭

Practice what you preach, practice safely, know when not to treat yourself, and never settle for anything less than natural, doctor-led results 🩺✨

Noticing early hairline recession, a thinning crown, or increased hair shedding every time you wash your hair? ⬇️

Male hair loss can feel frustrating to manage, but early assessment and treatment can make a significant difference in preserving existing hair and improving density.

Successful hair restoration starts with understanding why your hair is thinning and assessing the health of your scalp and hair follicles at a microscopic level 🔬

Using digital trichoscopy, we assess follicle density, scalp health and vascularity, hair shaft variation and signs of follicular miniaturisation to help identify the pattern and extent of hair loss.

From there, we create a personalised medical treatment plan. Depending on your assessment, this may include prescription hair-loss medication, targeted regenerative treatments, or our comprehensive Signature Hair Restoration Programme combining PRP, concentrated exosomes, polynucleotides and prescription biotin micro-injections.

There is no single treatment that is right for everyone. The aim is to intervene early, protect the follicles you still have and, where possible, stimulate thicker, healthier hair growth — without jumping straight to hair transplant surgery.

Hair loss assessments and our Signature Hair Restoration Programme are carried out by Dr Mäla at MPower Clinic in Quinton, Birmingham and Tettenhall, Wolverhampton 📍

Tired of those stubborn little white bumps around your eyes and cheeks that never squeeze away no matter what skincare products you use?

Those tiny bumps are called milia. Small, firm, harmless keratin-filled cysts trapped just beneath the surface layer of your skin.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PICK THESE YOURSELF ❌

Because milia sit under a thin layer of skin tissue without a natural pore opening, trying to squeeze them at home rarely works and will only cause excessive trauma, damage your skin barrier, and leave behind permanent scarring or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

At MPower Clinic, we safely clear milia using sterile extraction techniques or targeted precision cryotherapy to freeze and release the cyst instantly without damaging surrounding healthy skin.

Clearing your skin texture under professional, doctor-led conditions ensures your skin heals smoothly, cleanly, and completely scar-free ✨

Safe milia extraction and precision cryotherapy treatments are available with Dr Mäla at MPower Clinic in Quinton, Birmingham and Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.

Struggling with localised pockets of fat around your stomach, upper arms, bra line or flanks that refuse to shift no matter how hard you train or diet? ⬇️

Even with a dedicated fitness routine, stubborn fat deposits in specific body zones can be genetically resistant to standard weight loss.

DESO Body and DESO Face are second-generation injection lipolysis formulations containing sodium deoxycholate. When injected directly into targeted subcutaneous fat layers, the solution breaks down and disrupts the cell membranes of localised fat cells. Once these fat cells are destroyed, the released lipids are naturally processed, filtered, and permanently eliminated from the body through your lymphatic system over the following weeks.

Because the destroyed fat cells cannot regenerate, the results are permanent as long as a stable weight is maintained. Starting your treatment course now allows ample time for full lymphatic clearance ahead of the new season.

Areas to treat include: Chin, Jowls, Cheek contouring, Jawline contouring, Neck ("buffalo") hump, Armpit bulge, Inner knees, Upper arms ("bingo wings"), Bra line, Back roll, Abdomen, Thighs, Flanks, Hips ("love handles"), Mons p***s (vaginal mound), Male chest ("moobs").

📍 Doctor-led DESO Body and DESO Face fat dissolving treatments are available with Dr Mäla at MPower Clinic in Quinton, Birmingham and Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.
