When I first started tai chi, I was humbled in the best way. "It can't be that hard," I thought, "Look how slow it goes." But then, when I had to actually relearn how to breathe - how to relax - how to stand so my mind and body could thrive, I saw how far I'd wandered from a healthy path.

No wonder I was gaining weight, feeling exhausted, and in constant pain with sciatica. My very foundations were off balance and cracking.

Slowing down with tai chi forced me to confront my problems, but it also helped me to face them with patience and compassion. I learned how to observe myself and others with less judgement. And that step alone eliminated 30% of my pain.

Thriving - not simply surviving - is an inside job. Many workouts train the body, but how many train the mind to keep the body healthy?

If you're looking for a way to get fit inside and out, try joining me for class this weekend. Saturday at 10 am I'll lead Beginners Qigong & Meditation at OEP Athens. This is your chance to remember how to breathe - how to stand - how to relax so you can thrive.
