🫣 Oh the misinformation about food online…

I shudder multiple times a day at what I read and see - the utter nonsense, the fearmongering and the downright dangerous advice.

I work with women with a history of eating disorders and some that don’t even recognize they have one - orthorexia, where they are obsessed with eating only organic, unprocessed and “clean” foods.

Is organic a good idea? Of course! Should we eat less processed foods? Obviously. Are foods clean? If you wash them, yes…

It’s when you obsess over these to the detriment of your overall diet and nutrient intake that there is a problem.

What I do so often with clients is take the fear away from food and eating, I follow an 80/20 approach myself (you’ll regularly see me posting about coffee, cake, alcohol, crisps and pizza) and we focus on adding in, not taking away.

I’m not perfect, and I don’t expect my clients to be - life is life, we don’t all have the same 24 hours in the day and sometimes just adding a salad to something delicious but nutrient poor is absolutely good enough!

Do you struggle with this at all? Overwhelmed by what you read online?

The thing is AI won’t give you the answers either, unless you know what information to feed it (😆) and it certainly can’t personalize advice for you either. I’ve had so many clients say “Chat GPT says” and it was hella wrong!

If you want to get a discovery call booked for September, the link is in my bio (I use RedaCare) and in the meantime, why not sign up to my newsletter, or check out my brand new bundle? (More on the last slide).

The hardest one for me to remember are the legumes & nuts, I’m pretty good for the greens, green tea and seeds actually… which one do you think you’ll include first (or do more of if you already include them sporadically?)?

💫 Painful periods are common, but definitely NOT normal!

I see this so often in my clinic or when I give talks, women relying on heavy duty painkillers and having been told that it’s just part of being a woman.

😡 It is absolutely not!

Prostaglandins help with the uterine contractions, yes, some cramping is normal. But if you are missing work or school, taking painkillers every month or going on the pill just to stop the pain, then you need to do something about it.

➡️ I nearly always start with Omega 3s as they work so well to reduce the inflammatory (I.e. pain causing) prostaglandins - and the one supplement I always recommend is

So when they asked me to collaborate and become an affiliate I immediately said yes. I’ve had so many women tell me that even their very next period was better!

But not just pain. Some have less heavy periods and less PMS too.

If you want to try these Omega 3s you can use my code GWENBASTIAN-ENRIGHTSAVE15 and I’d love to hear how you get on! That gives you 15% discount off your first order and 30% if you choose to subscribe.

💜 Top tip: take two after a couple of bites of your dinner if you find fish oils repeat on you, I’ve never had an issue with the ones though!

💫 All the nonsense on social media…

….really wrecks my head!

And I am qualified and experienced in all this stuff so I have no idea how you are all navigating the noise and misinformation?!

Do you not want to throw your phone against the wall when you read things like:

😩 We all have the same 24 hours in the day
😡 Being obese is a choice
🥲 1,200 calories is all you need per day
🫣 Protein is more important than fiber so stop eating all plants
😬 Using coffee as a regular e***a is good for you
🤷🏻‍♀️ Drinking your own urine is the most hydrating

I mean, what?!

Please do share anything crazy you’ve read recently or even something that sounds sensible but totally unrealistic for you (like €1000 per month on supplements)?

On my page I really try to stay authentic, and make realistic suggestions - if you like even more then join the newsletter! I’ve also put together a Myths Vs Facts Guide for supplements in perimenopause (it’s part of my brand new bundle - coming soon!) as I’m trying to cut through the noise.

I mean. We are perimenopausal women, we won’t put up with all this bu****it anymore, will we?

Who’s with me?

****it

💫 5 Things I wish Every Perimenopausal Women Knew…

Seriously there are way more than 5 and I’ll tackle a few more from a diet & lifestyle point of view in the future.

For now. And in this age of apparently celebrating skeletal thinness again I want to talk more about mindset and how you feel about yourself.

So many women I work with do it all for everybody. And they themselves come last.

They put so much pressure on themselves and still don’t feel good enough.

They lie awake at night worrying about everything. Including what would happen if they didn’t change, and got seriously ill.

But some still don’t make changes, or don’t prioritize themselves, are cleaning the house instead of resting and putting off their appointments.

I want you all to know - you are worthy, you are good enough. And your body is too - and it deserves for you to have some fun moving it, and enjoying nice food.

When I work with women, I always look at their entire life and how to fit in health my habits - but the women who really thrive when they work with me? They’ve already realized deep down they deserve to get well. And to get help to do it.

Where are you at? If this post resonated, comment with a 💜

Really loving my new swimsuit and very excited about a late evening swim 🥰

It’s from Dunnes Stores if you’d like to know 🥰

Our daughter and I went for a short walk in the woods as I felt I hadn’t moved my body enough (Tuesdays are my busiest days with online work).

The weather is so amazing at the moment that I’m working hard on not immediately covering up once I’ve been for a swim - I went out in public in shorts yesterday (well, out for a walk and to our swim spot!), a big deal for me.

Why oh why are we still so bothered in this age? In so many other ways, turning 40 helped a lot with not giving a crap, and I know so many other peri and post menopausal women feel the same.

What is it about our bodies that makes us still insecure?

I mean. How stunning is this? Wouldn’t you want a dip here after a nice evening walk in the glorious weather we are having?

And then my daughter pipes up with “oh mum you have a food belly, you look like you’re pregnant”.

And honestly I know I have a belly (I swear I couldn’t get the angle right to actually show you, I really do).

And I was a little crushed. For a minute - and I didn’t show her. Because young minds!!!

And then I realized that actually it’s ok, because that belly helps keep me warm in cold water, and kept two babies safe, and I walked in right past her and called her a wuss for not getting in 😂

And boy was it worth it! It felt amazing. And I got to use my body in a joyful way.

I thought I’d post it as I know many of you have insecurities about your body and it’s because of how we grew up - and the skinny trend being back. It is really hard and we can absolutely have set backs.

But let’s not forget that we all have bodies. It’s hot, we need to wear less clothes and at the end of the day? A body is a body.

And also - the angle of a photo and the lighting absolutely changes everything! I’m a good size 12/14 and could easily make myself look much smaller (or bigger!) depending on the angle and the pose…

Wear the swimsuit/ the bikini and go have fun!!

💫 The importance of sleep

And why so many of us aren’t getting enough! Hopefully this post will help you a little bit - I’d love to hear from you… do you experience sleep issues?

And if you have found something that helps, what is it?

I’m so passionate about not overlooking these unsexy things like good quality sleep - I’d rather you invest some time into helping you sleep better than buying yet another supplement.

I’m running another webinar as well, this time on all things sleep! Check the slides for a way to get a sneaky little discount too 🥰
