🎀 Wearing Pink for a Special Cause at Castleross Nursing Home

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are showing our support

💕 On Wednesday, 21st October, we're inviting our residents, staff and visitors to wear pink and help raise awareness of this important cause.

🎟️ We're also holding a raffle, with tickets available in each house and our coffee shop.

💕 €2 per ticket or 3 for €5, with some lovely prizes to be won.

Together, let's show our support for everyone affected by breast cancer. 💗

Music, Memories and Moments to Treasure

Our residents have been thoroughly enjoying the Memories and Melodies programme here at Castleross Nursing Home.

With live music from Brendan McCahey Wedding Band and wonderful storytelling from Francis McCarron, our first two sessions have been filled with familiar tunes, nostalgic memories and opportunities to enjoy music together.

From the much-loved Showband Era to Country Time and International Classics, this special programme celebrates the music and stories that have touched so many lives.

We are so grateful to Monaghan County Council, Creative Ireland and Age Friendly Ireland for making these wonderful experiences possible, and to Brendan and Francis for sharing their talents with our residents.

We've had a fantastic time so far and look forward to welcoming them back for our final session!

Music, memories and a few familiar tunes! Our residents at Castleross Nursing Home have been thoroughly enjoying the wonderful live music sessions as part of the Memories and Melodies programme.

Brendan McCahey Wedding Band brought music to life for our residents, creating a lovely atmosphere filled with familiar melodies and opportunities to reminisce and enjoy the songs we know and love.

While our Residents enjoyed the storytelling by Francis McCarron (more about that later in this week - watch this page)

We have already enjoyed two fantastic sessions and are looking forward to our final visit.

A sincere thank you to Age Friendly Ireland, Monaghan County Council and Creative Ireland for organising this wonderful programme, and to Brendan for sharing and Francis for sharing their wonderful talents with our residents.

Our residents love their bus trips, and there’s always plenty of interest in who gets the front seat 😄

🎱 Bingo & a Little Pampering ✂️😊

We enjoyed a great game of bingo in Creevy House at Castleross Nursing Home this week, with a little pampering happening at the same time🥰

Our hairdresser Laura was busy looking after the gentlemen's haircuts, and Jemmy certainly wasn’t going to let a haircut get in the way of his bingo, enjoying the best of both worlds 😄

And of course, our wonderful Dympna, at an amazing 104 years young, joined in too and was happily managing her bingo card all by herself. ❤️

A lovely afternoon of fun, concentration, conversation and plenty of smiles.

🎂 A Very Special 102nd Birthday at Castleross Nursing Home Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

What a wonderful celebration we had at Castleross Nursing Home on Sunday September 27th as our lovely resident May celebrated her incredible 102nd birthday 🎂

May was surrounded by members of our Castleross team as we marked this very special milestone with a beautiful birthday cake 🎂lovingly prepared by our Kitchen Team, along with cards, gifts, lots of good wishes and, of course, a very special rendition of Happy Birthday! 🎶

And a 102nd birthday comes with another lovely honour. Each year after turning 100, residents in Ireland receive a congratulatory letter signed by the Uachtarán na hÉireann / President of Ireland Catherine Connolly and a special commemorative coin to mark their birthday.

Happy 102nd Birthday, May ❤️ It was our absolute pleasure to celebrate such a remarkable occasion with you. We hope you enjoyed every minute of your very special day 🎂 🎈

What a proud day at Castleross Nursing Home, Carrickmacross, as our Residents were officially presented with the prestigious Macra na Tuaithe Cup – the overall prize at the Castleblayney Show

We were delighted to welcome Castleblayney Show President, Mary Flanagan with Catherine Flanagan and Pamela Sheridan to present the Cup and certificates and celebrate this fantastic achievement with our Residents.

This award was the culmination of months of creativity, preparation and hard work by our Residents, supported throughout by our wonderful Activities Coordinators, Frances and Amy. Their encouragement, patience and enthusiasm played such an important part in bringing out the creativity and talents of our Residents.

A special thank you also to Samantha from our Castleross coffee shop, who helped Residents create their beautiful decoupage pieces.

The Castleblayney Show has become a very special part of our Activities Programme, in fact, when one Show finishes, ideas and preparations for the next show begin

Congratulations to our Residents and everyone involved – the Macra na Tuaithe Cup is now proudly at home in Castleross Nursing Home

We had a wonderful afternoon here at Castleross Nursing Home last Wednesday when the fabulous Colum Luckie joined us in the Coffee Shop to entertain our residents with some wonderful music.

There was plenty of singing, toe-tapping and smiling, all enjoyed with a lovely cup of tea or coffee. ☕

And we even had a very special musical accompaniment. One of our residents picked up the spoons and joined Colum for a little performance of their own. We couldn't resist sharing this short clip.

And then there was our wonderful Dympna, aged 104, who was up dancing and thoroughly enjoying the music. 💃

It really was one of those afternoons that reminds us that music has no age limit — it brings everyone together, gets the toes tapping and puts a smile on your face.

A huge thank you to Colum for bringing so much joy to our Coffee Shop, and to everyone who joined in and made the afternoon so special.

🎲 A Little Pre-Dinner Competition Castleross Nursing Home🎲

Kevin and Eamon enjoyed some board game fun in Creevy House while waiting for their dinner the other day —and it looks like the competition was well and truly on 😄

Snakes & Ladders and Ludo are firm favourites here at Castleross Nursing Home, bringing plenty of fun, friendly rivalry and laughter to the table.

The only question is… who won? 🐍🪜🏆
