Introducing dormiente 🌿

The BioWeaver Shop launches in early November, and one of the first brands on our shelves, that we have co-distributed for the last two and a half years, is the cleanest brand that I found anywhere in the world, for sleep, as a building biologist - dormiente.

dormiente began in Germany in 1988, when a group of biology graduates decided that pure, untreated natural materials, like wool, were the best foundation for a good night’s sleep. Today their mattresses are still handcrafted in Germany.

No synthetics. No compromise. Tested for over 200 chemical residues.

Natural latex. Sheep’s wool. Solid wood. Mattresses, bed bases, beds, bedding and pillows, made to work with your body and the seasons.

Back in 2021, I researched truly natural, coil-free mattresses and travelled to Sligo to meet Wilhelm Bodewigs, who had a dormiente studio in a beautiful location. It was the best decision that I ever made to create the healthiest, toxin-free bedrooms for my family.

I am excited to share that the showroom, open on a small scale since January, has expanded and we have a beautiful range of beds, mattresses, sofabeds and accessories for clients to see and feel in person.

Come and meet dormiente at our Clontarf showroom.

Visits are by appointment only, so DM us or email [email protected] to book 🤍

We are so delighted to share that The BioWeaver Method is a Silver Sponsor of the Functional Medicine Conference 2026 🌿

On 14–15 November, Europe’s leading functional medicine gathering comes to the Hogan Suite at Croke Park, Dublin. This year’s theme, “Advancing Healthspan - A Functional Medicine Approach to Mind, Body and Longevity” is an area that is central to The BioWeaver Method and our clients.

Come and find me at our stand for a first look at our new shop, with natural beds and mattresses from Dormiente, Ocushield, Nibbed cacao and more. I’d love to talk about how our health and the spaces we live in are woven together, where functional medicine meets building biology.

Tickets at fmcireland.com. Please come say hello 💛

“Part of building biology is that we have curves.” 🌀

Nature rarely works in straight lines. Think spirals in shells, rings in a tree trunk, the shape of a wave. Building biology brings that thinking into the spaces we live and sleep in, starting with natural materials and organic forms.

This wild oak headboard from says it better than we can. Look at that grain 🤍

Now taking bookings at our new showroom, 383 Clontarf Road. Visits are by appointment only, so DM us or email [email protected] to book.

Last week was World Sight Day, and it’s a day that means a lot to me.

My grandad lived with macular degeneration. I watched the world slowly narrow for him: faces, newspapers, the small everyday things most of us never think twice about seeing. Years later, I worked on a show about a young girl who was visually impaired, and it changed how I think about sight. It’s not something to take for granted. It’s something to look after, gently and every day.

That’s a big part of why we’re so happy to be Ocushield’s official partner for the Irish market. Ocushield was founded by an optometrist, and their screen protectors and glasses help reduce exposure to blue light from the phones, laptops and tablets we use from morning to night. As the evenings draw in and screen time creeps up, it’s a simple way to be more mindful of evening screen light, which research links to disrupted sleep.

At The BioWeaver Method, everything we do is about creating healthier environments, and that includes the screens we live with. Ocushield fits that perfectly.

The BioWeaver Shop launches in early November, with Ocushield on our shelves from day one. Stay close 🌿

When I was asked to write about kindness for the Spring issue of Positive Life magazine, my heart felt warm and I smiled.

The heart produces the strongest rhythmic electrical signal in the human body, and its field reaches 1–3 metres around us. When we feel kindness, even from a stranger’s smile, the people near us feel it too. And you don’t even need a hug: activating the heart can calm the nervous system and bring the heart and brain into coherence. How magical is that? 💛

This piece is dedicated to my beautiful friend Audrey Hunt (née Bury), a massive light to so many, and to her husband Gary, with all my love. It’s also in memory of another treasured member of our community, whom we lost in these past few weeks. Being truly present for someone at the end is one of the deepest kindnesses we can offer.

A heartfelt thank you to Alison, editor of Positive Life, and to Paul for kindly allowing me a late change to the article so I could dedicate it to Audrey. 🙏 Copies of Positive Life are available free in all good health stores.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam, mo anam cara.

Let’s not forget that kindness to ourselves, as well as to others, is the ultimate recipe for magic.

A few years ago, after reading a super article by of in I got myself two old wh***ey and b**r barrels at a salvage yard to harvest rain water.

They were about €40 each and two amazing carpenters who we were working with added the drains from the side of our timber garage and garden studio.

Many people have laughed over the years about harvesting rainwater when it rains so much in Ireland though sadly, now we are experiencing massive water shortage because of hotter summers in Ireland. We are teeny in comparison to big farms trying to grow with no water though every little bit helps.

We have plenty of water between two barrels to water the front and back garden, vegetable and fruit beds and the fruit trees.

It feels really good to fill a watering can with rainwater and make so much sense! I even know someone who has done it on a balcony 🙌🤩

Any of my neighbours are always welcome to fill up whenever they need to.

Imagine if every home had one of these to tide us over in these dry times so that the whole community has enough. Could we brain storm ways to do this on a larger scale for farmers who need it?

Every little bit helps at a time when wild fires are ripping through Europe, and afar, and when more water is needed than ever.

We have level 4 restrictions in France now so will all likely bathe in the sea or pool, or have very short showers! Or just be content to be a bit stinkier than normal.

My Grandad used to always say that we would wash the oils out of our hair and skin if we kept having showers so often. Let’s put that to the test!

Your paint is releasing microplastics you can’t see.

That “fresh paint smell” is not new home energy. It is volatile organic compounds, acrylics and toxic chemicals releasing into the air… and you are breathing them into your lungs every single day.

Standard paint is designed (using chemical compounds) to dry faster, resist stains and stay on surfaces for years. But what makes it convenient is also what makes it deeply questionable inside the home.

Paint produces two thirds of the world’s microplastics. It is not even allowed into a skip when we do a clear out of a house - so why are we putting it all over our walls, ceilings, furniture and every surface we live beside?

And why are we allowing ourselves and our children to breathe it in 24/7?

The fix is simple: natural lime and clay paints with natural earth pigments.

The wall of my office is painted with paint from in Co. Meath. My kids have drawn on these walls and I just wipe it off with natural soap and warm water.

No chemicals.
No headaches.
Just clean, beautiful air to breathe in.

You can use my discount code BIOWEAVER10 with Ecological Building Systems to order online. Highly recommend you also go visit them in Athboy, Meath where you can even see your own paint being mixed - You can even go into room when the paint is being mixed because it is so natural, and they have so many earth pigments there. Frances in there is brilliant!

In our new store @ 383 Clontarf road (D03 T2W6) we also have samples you can try of the Auro range to touch, taste and smell - and some Earth pigments to look at so you can experience what a natural paint smells like. There is no toxic odour, just an earthy one!

This petition from Greens/EFA is calling for “No poisonous chemicals in our cosmetics”, in response to a European Commission proposal that says they could relax rules around CMR substances - chemicals that may be carcinogenic, mutagenic or harmful to reproduction - in cosmetics such as lipstick, perfume and sunscreen.

Many of us use multiple personal care products every single day and some of us put an estimated 700-1000 chemicals on our skin a day!

Moisturisers. Sunscreens. Perfumes. Lip balms. Deodorants. Makeup. Baby products.

Often, we think of personal care as something separate from the health of the home - but what we bring into contact with our bodies also becomes part of our indoor environment, our air, our water systems and, ultimately, our overall biological load.

Right now, Greens/EFA in the European Parliament are asking people to sign a petition calling for no poisonous chemicals in our cosmetics.

Their concern is that current protections could be weakened, potentially allowing certain CMR chemicals - substances linked with cancer, genetic damage or reproductive harm - back into everyday cosmetic products under specific conditions.

And this matters.
Because perfume is inhaled.
Lip products are ingested.
Sprays linger in the air.
Children put things in their mouths.

And many of us use multiple personal care products every single day.

At The BioWeaver Method, we often speak about the small, practical changes that reduce unnecessary toxic load in the home. This is one of those moments where a small action could contribute to a much bigger shift.

If you feel called to support safer personal care products in Europe, please sign the petition.

Let’s do our part to keep harmful chemicals out of our homes, our bodies and our everyday rituals.
