“Can you recommend a kidney supplement?”

It sounds like such a simple question… but in many dogs, it really isn’t. 🐶💚

A dog parent recently contacted me about her 12-year-old dog, who had been through a lot already:

🐾 food allergies
🐾 gallbladder issues
🐾 pancreas and liver concerns
🐾 and now early kidney disease

She was trying so hard to find the “right” kidney supplement, but everything seemed to contain something unsuitable: flavours he couldn’t tolerate, ingredients that didn’t fit his history, or minerals she was worried about.

And this is exactly why I don’t usually recommend just one kidney supplement without looking at the whole dog first. 🌿

Kidney disease needs to be staged properly.
The diet needs to match the stage.
And the plan needs to take everything else into account too... allergies, digestion, pancreas, liver, gallbladder history, medication history, blood results and urine results.

From a naturopathic point of view, kidney support is not just one product.

It may include:

⚖️ mineral balance
💧 hydration support
🌿 herbs
✨ targeted supplements
🍄‍🟫 medicinal mushrooms
🔥 inflammation support

And most importantly... it has to fit the dog in front of us.

Because two dogs with kidney disease may need very different plans.

Off on a little adventure… 🚢
I’m heading to the Norwegian fjords... and I’m really looking forward to a bit of fresh air, nature, family time and proper rest.

Because I’ll be at sea, I’ll have limited internet, so I may be a little quiet here for a while. 💚

Osteosarcoma is one of those diagnoses that can feel like the ground has disappeared beneath your feet. 💔

Often, the first conversation is about the conventional options:

🦴 amputation
💊 chemotherapy
🎯 radiation
💉 pain relief and bone support

And these options can be important... sometimes very important.

But what I want more pet parents to know is this:

There are more support available than you were told. 🌿

This case was not simply about “cancer treatment.”
It was about a much-loved dog, a devoted owner, and a careful plan built around comfort, quality of life, fracture prevention, and whole-body support.

From the naturopathic side, we can often work in many layers:

🥣 nutritional therapy
🌿 homeopathy
✨ CBD
🍄 medicinal mushrooms
🌱 selected herbs and natural compounds
🧬 fenbendazole in selected cases
🐟 omega-3 fatty acids and other targeted nutrients

But this is never a copy-and-paste protocol.

Even two dogs with osteosarcoma may need very different support... depending on their pain level, age, temperament, bloodwork, conventional treatment plan, family situation, and what their human can realistically manage.

My role is to help pet parents understand the options, support the body as deeply as possible, and create a plan that works alongside conventional care... or as its own supportive path, depending on what feels right for that dog and family. 💚

In my cancer consultations, you receive a 1.5-hour deep dive, a fully individualised written plan, product links suited to your country, and 4 weeks of email support while you begin implementing the plan.

Fjords, family… and your pet’s liver 💚

This month’s newsletter is a little personal, because I’m getting ready for a very special family trip to Norway to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. 🛳️🏔️

But before I go, I wanted to share an important topic that came from a real pet parent’s question:

“My dog has gallbladder sludge… what does that actually mean?”

Good nutrition is not about perfection... it’s about awareness 💚

A more conscious approach to feeding might look like:

🥣 offering gentle variety over time
🔍 reading the ingredient list, not just the front of the bag
💩 paying attention to stool quality, gas, reflux, licking or itching
✨ choosing supplements with purpose, not randomly
🌿 using nutrition as prevention, not only when illness appears

These small choices matter.

Food influences digestion, skin, energy, immune resilience, inflammation, and overall wellbeing every single day.

And no... you don’t need to do everything perfectly.
You just need to start paying attention, one small step at a time. 🐾

A gentle reminder today 🐾💚

Your dog depends on you for so much more than food, walks, and cuddles.

You are the one who notices the small changes.
The one who asks questions.
The one who chooses what goes into the bowl.
The one who seeks help when something feels “off.”

That doesn’t mean you need to be perfect.
It simply means that every small, thoughtful choice matters. 🌿

Your dog’s health is built day by day... through nutrition, love, awareness, and care.

And that is something truly powerful. 🐶✨

Sometimes, the most beautiful care happens when we stop choosing sides. 🐾💚

Lexi’s case is such a lovely example of what can happen when conventional veterinary medicine and naturopathic veterinary care work together.

Her conventional vet focused on the acute side:
🩺 diagnostics
🧪 blood tests
🏥 stabilisation
📋 ongoing monitoring

And my role was to look at the deeper, longer-term support her body needed:
🌿 gut health
🥣 nutrition
🦠 microbiome rebuilding
✨ nutrient absorption
💚 whole-body support

Because Lexi’s body wasn’t just asking for symptom control.

Her results showed that her gut was struggling to absorb the nutrients she needed, especially folate and vitamin B12, which told us that deeper intestinal support was needed.

And this is exactly where collaboration becomes so valuable.
Conventional medicine can be essential in acute situations.
Naturopathic care can offer support for the terrain... the gut, the immune system, nutrition, resilience, and long-term balance.

It should not have to be one or the other.
It can be both.
With the pet at the centre. 🐶💚

This is how I love to work: respectfully, collaboratively, and always with the aim of giving the animal the most complete support possible.

Cancer is one of the hardest words to hear as a pet parent 💔

And in that moment, everything can feel overwhelming…
the decisions, the uncertainty, the fear of doing the “wrong” thing.

But something I want you to know is this:

👉 You are not without options.

From a natural, holistic perspective, there is so much we can do to support pets with cancer... gently, individually, and in a way that works with their body 🌿

In my work, I don’t rely on just one approach.

I look at the whole animal and build support in layers... through nutrition, medicinal mushrooms, herbal medicine, targeted supplements, and, where appropriate, homeopathy.

And one of the most important things to understand is this:
There is no one-size-fits-all plan.

Even two pets with the same diagnosis can need completely different support.
This work is always deeply individual 💚

Natural support can be used alongside conventional treatment - or on its own - depending on what feels right for you and your pet.
