✨️"Kids will grab any opportunity to use their imagination, because they don't always get the chance." ✨
A few weeks ago, my cousin said this to me and it captured the heart of everything I foster here at Hummingbird Studio. When children are given the space, permission, and time to just be, the boost in their self-belief is extraordinary.

✨WEBINAR ✨- School-Based Anxiety: Supporting Your Child Back to School
WEDNESDAY 26 AUGUST 7:00pm

For some children and teenagers, the return to school brings more than the usual nerves, and for parents, knowing how best to help can be difficult. There are the struggles getting to sleep, the constant need for reassurance and those tense mornings when you don’t know whether they will get out of bed, make it to the car or manage to walk through the school gates. Over time, it can leave parents feeling worried, exhausted and increasingly powerless. In this webinar, we’ll explore what drives school-based anxiety, the understandable ways parents tend to respond and why these can sometimes inadvertently keep the anxiety going. I’ll then introduce a practical four-stage strategy to help you support your child or teenager as they navigate the return to school.

We often think loneliness is the absence of people, but sometimes it exists in the presence of others. Most of us have experienced what it’s like to be with someone who isn’t really there. They’re listening, but only in fragments. Their attention drifts between the conversation, their phone, tomorrow’s responsibilities and the endless stream of notifications competing for their mind. Something important is missing - relational attention. Human beings have a deep yearning to be listened to in order to feel recognised and received. When you feel that another person’s inner world has made room for yours, you’re on the receiving end of relational attention and it leaves us feeling understood and emotionally met. It’s a soothing balm against loneliness, distress and disconnection. These small moments often leave the deepest impression. None of us can be fully present all the time and one of the quieter costs of living in an age of constant interruption is that our attention has become increasingly fragmented. And because it has become rarer, it has also become more valuable. Giving someone your undivided attention is no longer a trivial gesture, it’s one of the clearest ways we communicate care and presence. People rarely need us to solve their problems or say exactly the right thing. More often, they simply need to feel that, for a little while, they didn’t have to compete with the rest of the world for our attention. Sometimes, being fully present is the most meaningful thing we can offer another human being. Seek out moments of relational attention - they happen often if we’re present enough to notice them. What a gift it is to be able to make someone else’s day richer by attending to them instead of our phone. 😊
