When a stroke occurs, every single minute counts. A blood clot blocking a brain artery deprives critical brain tissue of oxygen, leading to rapid cell damage. On this World Stroke Day, Dr. Bhaskar MV, Interventional Radiologist at Adhventha Hospital, urges everyone to learn and remember the crucial BE-FAST signs:
B - Balance: Sudden loss of balance, unsteadiness, or severe dizziness.
E - Eyes: Sudden blurring, double vision, or loss of sight in one or both eyes.
F - Face: Drooping or numbness on one side of the face.
A - Arm: Sudden weakness or numbness in an arm or leg.
S - Speech: Slurred, strange, or confused speech, or difficulty finding words.
T - Time: If you spot even one of these signs, rush to the hospital immediately.
Critical First-Response Actions:
Note the exact time symptoms began.
Do not wait for symptoms to pass on their own.
Do not give any food, water, or oral medicine.
Timely intervention, including emergency endovascular clot removal (mechanical thrombectomy) in selected patients, restores vital blood flow and helps save the brain. Spread the awareness and help protect your loved ones.
