In observance of the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Suraksh*t Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), a special programme was conducted on 9 June 2026 HWC-PHC SOMBARIA under Soreng District. across all PHSC Health and Wellness Centres.
Pradhan Mantri Suraksh*t Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, launched in 31 June 2016 Prime minister of India. To provide free, assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care (ANC) services to all pregnant women.

PMSMA helps ensure that every pregnant woman receives proper care and specialist consultation during pregnancy, leading to safer pregnancies and healthier mothers and babies.
OBJECTIVES OF PMSMA
I) Ensure at least one ANC check-up by a doctor or specialist during the 2nd or 3rd trimester.
II) Improve the quality of antenatal care services.
Iii) Provide essential investigations, medicines, and counselling.
Iv) Identify and monitor High-Risk Pregnancies (HRPs).
V) Promote birth preparedness and complication readiness.
Vi) Provide special attention to adolescent pregnancies and malnourished mothers.
Vii) Reach pregnant women who have missed or dropped out of routine ANC services.
Viii) Counselling given on complement feeding and nutritional supplements.

The observance served as an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of PMSMA over the past ten years while reaffirming the commitment of healthcare workers towards strengthening maternal and child health services in the community

The E-Prescription Service under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) was formally inaugurated at District Hospital Singtam by Shri Ballaram Adhikari, Hon'ble Zilla Adhyaksha, Gangtok District, in the presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Director-cum-Chief Medical Officer, Gangtok District.

The inauguration programme was attended by the District Medical Superintendent, Councillors of Singtam Nagar Panchayat (SNP), MEO SNP, Social Welfare Officer Gangtok, doctors, nurses, and other staff of District Hospital Singtam.

As an ABDM-enabled Model Facility, District Hospital Singtam has adopted several digital health initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery and enhancing patient experience. These include digital patient registration, creation and linking of ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) IDs, e-Prescriptions, Scan and Share facility for OPD registration, digital health records, and streamlined patient flow management.

The E-Prescription system enables doctors to generate and maintain prescriptions electronically, ensuring greater accuracy, improved legibility, secure record management, and reduced dependence on paper-based documentation. Patients can benefit from easier access to their health records, faster service delivery, and enhanced continuity of care.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries appreciated the efforts of District Hospital Singtam in embracing digital innovations and strengthening healthcare services for the community. They highlighted the importance of technology-driven healthcare solutions in building a more efficient, transparent, and patient-centric health system.

The launch of the E-Prescription Service marks another important step towards realizing the vision of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which aims to create an integrated digital health ecosystem across the country and ensure accessible, efficient, and quality healthcare services for all citizens.

The Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) Meeting of District Hospital Singtam was held on 10 June 2026 at the Conference Hall of District Hospital Singtam.

The meeting was graced by Shri Balaram Adhikari, Honโ€™ble Zilla Adhakshya, Gangtok District in presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Director-cum-Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Gangtok District; Dr. Raju Singh, District Medical Superintendent othe present were Shri Suresh Tamang, Councillor, Singtam Nagar Panchayat; Shri Ujjwal Pandey, MEO Singtam Nagar Panchayat; Smt. Rajani Singh Cintury, Councillor, Singtam Nagar Panchayat; Smt. Manika Gurung, Social Welfare Officer, Gangtok (WC&DD); Dr. Tshering Ongmu Bhutia, (DSO); Shri Shishir Kumar Tamang, CAO; Smt. Rohini Gurung, Under Secretary; Shri.Dharni D Mishra DPM; Smt. Kikila Lepcha, DPHNO; Smt. Pema D Sherpa AD Sanitation, Smt. Prasansamani Ruth Rai, DQC; Shri Binod Pradhan, Contractor; Smt. Srijana Lama; Shri K. L. Mintri of Om Himalayan; Shri Tara Chand Chettri, AE (Power Department); Shri Tseten Dorjee Bhutia, JE (PHE Department), along with doctors, nursing staff, pharmacists, IEC officials and other staff members of District Hospital Singtam.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Director-cum-CMO, Gangtok District. This was followed by a detailed presentation by Dr. Raju Singh, DMS, on the activities of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, covering sources of RKS funds, expenditure details, proposals for the financial year 2026โ€“27, existing limitations, and future strategies.

A felicitation ceremony was also organized to honour individuals and stakeholders who have contributed towards the development and upliftment of District Hospital Singtam.

During the open house discussion, several important issues were deliberated upon, including water crisis management, power supply, blood donation initiatives, hospital infrastructure, and revenue generation. The Power Department informed that a dedicated power line has been provided to the hospital to ensure uninterrupted services.

The Social Welfare Department assured support in the form of assistive kits for persons with disabilities, establishment of a breastfeeding corner under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, provision of sanitary pads, and support for organizing voluntary blood donation camps.

Stakeholders also suggested revenue-generating measures such as installation of an ATM within the hospital premises, development of private wards, and mobilization of support from various organizations and stakeholders in and around Singtam.

The meeting further emphasized the continuation of cleanliness drives in coordination with the Singtam Nagar Panchayat to maintain a healthy environment and strengthen dengue prevention efforts.

Addressing the gathering, Honโ€™ble Zilla Adhakshya Shri Balaram Adhikari stressed the importance of constructive criticism and self-criticism as tools for institutional growth and improved patient care. He highlighted the significance of community participation, resource mobilization, transparency, and accountability in strengthening healthcare services. He encouraged the hospital administration to approach companies, retired officials, and various organizations for support in procuring equipment and organizing blood donation camps. He also emphasized timely completion of land registration for PHSCs and effective power management within the hospital.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Director-cum-CMO, also requested the concerned authorities for deployment of additional security personnel at the hospital to enhance safety and security.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Prasansamani Ruth Rai, District Quality Consultant, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, stakeholders, and participants for their valuable contributions towards strengthening healthcare services at District Hospital Singtam.

Rhenock, 10 June 2026: The 10th Anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Suraksh*t Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) was observed at Rhenock Community Health Centre under the initiative of the Block IEC Cell, Rhenock CHC, Pakyong District.

The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness on the importance of quality antenatal care and ensuring safe motherhood.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Medical Officer In-Charge (MO/I/C), Rhenock CHC. An awareness session was delivered by the resource persons including the MO/I/C, Health Educator, Mid-Level Health Provider (MLHP), and General Nursing Midwife (GNM).

The speakers highlighted the objectives and achievements of PMSMA over the past ten years, emphasizing the importance of regular antenatal check-ups, early identification of high-risk pregnancies, institutional deliveries, and maternal and child health services.

Participants were informed about the various services available under PMSMA and encouraged to avail antenatal care services regularly.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion and a vote of thanks to all participants for their active involvement in promoting maternal health and safe motherhood.

โ€œPakyong PHC takes a pledge on the observance of World No To***co Day 2026โ€

Pakyong, 10 June 2026: In observance of World No To***co Day (WNTD) 2026, the Health & Family Welfare Department, Pakyong District, organized a pledge-taking ceremony at Pakyong Primary Health Centre (PHC) to reaffirm the districtโ€™s commitment towards a to***co-free and healthier future.

The pledge ceremony was conducted by Dr. Digcha Shree Rai, District Programme Coordinator, National To***co Control Programme (NTCP), Pakyong. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rai emphasized that although World No To***co Day is observed annually on May 31, the district continues to work tirelessly towards strengthening to***co control measures and promoting a smoke-free environment.

During the programme, Pakyong PHC was officially declared a Smoke-Free Health Institution, marking a significant step in the districtโ€™s ongoing efforts to maintain its status as a to***co-free district. All staff members collectively pledged to uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of to***co and to***co products within the hospital premises and surrounding areas.

Sikkim Participates in National Celebration of 10 Years of PMSMA โ€“ A Decade of Promoting Safe Motherhood

Sikkim joined the nationwide celebration marking 10 Years of Pradhan Mantri Suraksh*t Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) โ€“ A Decade of Promoting Safe Motherhood, commemorating ten years of dedicated efforts towards ensuring quality antenatal care and safer pregnancies for women across the country.

The national programme was inaugurated in hybrid mode by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Shri J.P. Nadda, in the presence of Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. To mark this significant milestone, a โ‚น5 commemorative postal stamp and a โ‚น75 commemorative coin were released in recognition of PMSMA's decade-long contribution to promoting safe motherhood and improving maternal health outcomes. The Ministry also unveiled IEC posters, a commemorative PMSMA video, and awareness jingles to further strengthen outreach and promote maternal health awareness across the country.

Representing the State of Sikkim through virtual participation were the Principal Director-cum-Mission Director, NHM; Principal Director-cum-Nodal Officer, NHM; Director (RCH); Addl. Director (RBSK,RKSK); Joint Director (RCH); State Immunization Officer; and Deputy Director-cum-State IEC Officer (SIECB).

Since its launch on 9 June 2016, PMSMA has played a pivotal role in strengthening antenatal care services through the early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies, contributing significantly to safer motherhood and healthier outcomes for mothers and newborns.

As PMSMA completes a decade of service, the programme continues to reinforce the nation's commitment to ensuring that every pregnant woman receives quality maternal healthcare and a safe pregnancy journey.
