Rare Neurological Disorder Successfully Treated at KIMS Kurnool

Doctors at KIMS Hospitals, Kurnool, successfully treated a 61-year-old man suffering from a rare and complex neurological condition caused by a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak.

According to Dr. N. Sumanth Kumar, Consultant Neurosurgeon, the patient had previously undergone two surgeries for recurrent blood clots over the brain surface. Despite treatment, his condition continued to worsen.

A detailed evaluation revealed a tear in the protective covering of the upper spinal cord, causing continuous leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. This led to cerebral hypotension, a rare and often difficult-to-diagnose condition that can result in serious neurological complications.

Following timely diagnosis and specialized treatment, the patient recovered successfully after a prolonged critical illness, highlighting the importance of advanced neurological expertise and comprehensive care.

A remarkable story of hope, resilience, and advanced neonatal care.

At just 27 weeks of pregnancy, twin babies entered the world weighing only 800 grams each, facing tremendous challenges from the very beginning.

Under the expert care of Dr. H. A. Naveed, HOD & Senior Consultant Neonatologist, and the dedicated NICU team at KIMS Hospitals, Kurnool, the twins received comprehensive intensive care support, including:

β€’ Advanced ventilator management
β€’ Specialized nutritional support
β€’ Infection prevention and treatment
β€’ Brain imaging and developmental monitoring
β€’ Regular eye screenings

After 37 days of dedicated neonatal care, the babies achieved a stable condition and were safely discharged into the loving arms of their parents.

Caring for critically ill newborns requires continuous monitoring, precision, and expert medical attention.

In neonatal intensive care, important laboratory parameters such as **sodium levels** and **creatinine values** provide crucial information about a baby's fluid balance and kidney function.

For infants requiring advanced kidney support, including dialysis, these measurements help doctors:
β€’ Monitor kidney performance
β€’ Assess electrolyte balance
β€’ Guide treatment decisions
β€’ Track recovery and overall health

In very young patients, even small changes in these biochemical markers can significantly influence medical management.

Timely investigations and close monitoring are essential components of specialized neonatal care, helping healthcare teams provide the best possible outcomes for vulnerable newborns.
