An elderly man visited Dr. K. Vinuthna Prasad Reddy, Consultant Neurologist, with a troubling complaint — he was experiencing significant difficulty walking and struggled to take proper steps.

Not every throat pain is caused by an ENT problem. Sometimes, the source can be neurological.

A college-going girl presented with persistent throat pain despite consulting ENT specialists and general physicians. She underwent investigations, but no significant abnormality was identified.

As part of further counselling and evaluation, she consulted Dr. K. Vinuthna Prasad Reddy, Consultant Neurologist at Medigo Hospitals.

After carefully reviewing her history and conducting a detailed clinical and neurological examination, Dr. Vinuthna advised an MRI. The evaluation revealed an uncommon neurological condition called 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐠𝐢𝐚—a rare nerve disorder that can cause intense, sharp pain in the throat, tonsillar region, tongue or ear.

With appropriate medication and regular follow-up, she experienced progressive improvement and, after 3 months of treatment, was completely relieved from the pain.

Some neurological conditions are so rare that they can be mistaken for vision problems. This is the story of one such remarkable recovery at Medigo Hospitals.

An elderly couple came to us with a puzzling complaint. After returning home one day, the husband looked at his wife and asked, "Who is she?"

When she spoke, he immediately recognized her by her voice. He could also identify her through touch and smell, yet he was unable to recognize her by sight.
