The review discusses several aspects of REMS and its clinical potential:
𝐁𝐌𝐃 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤. Approximately half of hip fractures occur in individuals whose bone mineral density is outside the osteoporotic range, highlighting the value of additional information on skeletal fragility.
𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞: 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲. REMS technology enables the measurement of an innovative parameter, the Fragility Score, which automatically evaluates bone fragility.
Derived from lumbar-spine and femoral-neck ultrasound spectra, this 0–100 index is based on comparisons with reference models developed from individuals with and without fractures.
It is designed to provide quantitative information on bone quality and skeletal fragility beyond that captured by BMD alone.
