A Tragic Reminder: Every Life Matters. Every Second Counts. 🛑🇱🇰

The tragic accident reported in Akurana yesterday is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life can be and how devastating road accidents are to individuals, families, and our entire community.

Every life lost on our roads is one too many. Behind every tragedy are loved ones, shattered dreams, and families left with unimaginable pain.

As SAFE Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), we urge every road user to recognise that road safety is a shared responsibility.

🚦 Let’s make every journey safer:
âś… Drive responsibly and obey traffic rules.
âś… Avoid speeding and reckless driving.
âś… Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
âś… Wear helmets correctly and always use seat belts.
âś… Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
âś… Protect pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

🙏 Our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected.

Road safety is not a choice; it is a responsibility.

Let us work together to prevent avoidable tragedies and make Sri Lanka’s roads safer for everyone. 🇱🇰

🚸 Happy Children’s Day from SAFE Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

This Children’s Day, we are proud to stand together with our partners and stakeholders in promoting safer journeys and protecting our children on the road. 💙

As part of the SLMA Road Safety Committee’s Helmet Hero Initiative, we were delighted to support young riders in the Sri Jayawardenepura area by distributing 110 helmets to children — a meaningful step towards encouraging safer road travel and protecting our youngest road users. 🪖💛

Our sincere appreciation to:

🤝 SLMA Expert Committee on PRTC – SAFE Sri Lanka
🤝 Rotary Club of Sri Jayawardenepura
🤝 eChannelling PLC
🤝 Interact – President’s College Kotte
🤝 UP Co. (Upali Perera Company – 2) – for generously sponsoring all 110 helmets

This Children’s Day initiative is a reminder that every child deserves a safe journey, a healthy childhood and the opportunity to grow up in a safer environment.

Road safety is not the responsibility of one organisation alone. When medical professionals, schools, communities, corporates, service organisations and partners come together, we can make a meaningful difference in protecting our children.

🛣️ Every child deserves a safe journey home.

Safer Journeys. Healthier Children. A Safer Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰

🚸 Happy Children’s Day! 💙

Every child deserves to walk, travel and grow up in a safe environment.

This Children’s Day, let’s make road safety a shared responsibility. As drivers, parents, pedestrians and members of our communities, let’s slow down, stay alert, respect pedestrian crossings and protect our little ones.

Because getting home safely is the most important journey of all. ❤️

Drive with care. Walk with care. Protect every child. 🇱🇰

Road safety is a shared responsibility, and meaningful change begins through collaboration.

Today, 18th July 2026, at the SLMA Auditorium, we successfully concluded the Road Safety Conference together with the official launch of the Helmet Hero Project, bringing together key stakeholders committed to creating safer roads across Sri Lanka.

The Rotary Club of Sri Jayawardenapura is proud to play a major role in this impactful initiative under the guidance of Rtn. Dr. Ruwan Thushara Matewelage, whose leadership and dedication continue to drive this mission forward.

We are also proud to have eChannelling PLC join this national initiative as a committed partner, supporting the vision of promoting road safety, preventive healthcare, and community well-being. Together with the Safe Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 movement, this collaboration reflects our shared commitment to protecting lives and creating a safer future for every Sri Lankan.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all the government representatives, healthcare professionals, partner organizations, and other key stakeholders who participated in this important event. Your collective commitment and collaboration are essential in building a stronger culture of road safety and saving lives.

Together, let’s make Sri Lanka’s roads safer—one helmet, one rider, and one life at a time.
