🙏 We welcomed September at Casa Amalia with a beautiful Mass celebrated by Mgr Anton Borg.

For many of our clients living with dementia, faith has been an important part of life for many years. Familiar prayers, hymns and religious traditions can offer a sense of comfort, reassurance and continuity, while also creating opportunities for connection with others.

Supporting our clients’ spiritual wellbeing is an important part of person-centred care. Moments like these allow each person to participate in a way that is meaningful to them, while maintaining familiar routines and traditions that form part of their identity.

If you would like to learn more about the care, activities and support available at Casa Amalia, get in touch with our team for more information.

Thank you, Dun Anton, for sharing this special celebration with us. ❤️🌿

We ended the month of August with one of our clients’ favourite activities: a cooking day!

Cooking is especially meaningful for our clients as it draws on familiar routines, tastes, smells, and practical skills that may have been part of everyday life for many years.

Our carers are there to provide the right level of support so that clients can continue using their abilities and participating as independently as possible. 👩‍🍳💙

What a day full of games, smiles and laughter! 🎲😊

Our clients enjoyed a wonderful time filled with fun games and teamwork. The activities we planned for them are enjoyable, and help support cognitive skills such as thinking, concentration, focus and problem-solving, while encouraging social interaction and participation. 🏒🧠

All in all, it's been a lovely day of fun, connection and lots of happy moments!

This week’s fruit-themed activities gave our clients an opportunity to practise important fine motor skills through grasping, positioning and arranging small pieces to create pineapples and grapes. More importantly, they loved the process and were proud of their creations!

For people living with dementia, activities like these can help maintain dexterity, hand-eye coordination and concentration, while encouraging them to continue using their abilities in a purposeful way.

Our carers play an important role throughout the process, offering clear guidance, demonstrations and hands-on support when needed, while still giving each client the time and space to participate as independently as possible. 💙

At Casa Amalia, activities are adapted to each person’s abilities, with the aim of supporting participation, independence and wellbeing through meaningful everyday engagement.

What a wonderfully musical morning! 🎶

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the Gozo Community Choir. Our clients loved singing along to familiar favourites and traditional Maltese songs. 🇲🇹🎤🎹. They followed the lyrics and belted the tunes, creating a vibrant and happy atmosphere at Casa Amalia.

Thanks to the Gozo Community Choir for joining us!

Some photos from last weekend 💙
Our clients had front row seats to Saturday's Santa Marija band march and they loved every second!

They watched the band playing, clapped to the festive celebrations and some even joined the revellers ✨. Others participated from the balcony, throwing the colourful confetti they prepared in advance. It was a lovely afternoon filled with joy and community spirit!

Thanks to Casa Amalia's central location, our clients never miss out on Victoria's vibrant feasts!

The week continues with more fun for our Casa Amalia clients. They enjoyed a karoake session and played musical instruments while a delicious home made meal was being prepared. We had a comforting seasonal soup, traditional cheese and pea cakes, a trifle, and fresh watermelon. Some of our clients also helped to get the meal all set, feeling proud when everyone else devoured what they prepared! 🎤🪇🍲

Festa preparations are in full swing at Casa Amalia, with fine motor skills being put to work!

Our clients enjoyed creating custom confetti and helping to decorate Casa Amalia in preparation for the feast of St. Mary💙✨

Activities such as cutting, sorting and handling small materials help clients use their coordination and dexterity while remaining actively involved in purposeful tasks. Preparing for a much-loved feast also brings familiar traditions into our daily activities, creating opportunities for connection, conversation and a sense of belonging.

We’re looking forward to celebrating together this weekend! 💙

Last week, our clients celebrated the birthdays of our wonderful staff members, Joyce and Fatma. They also got creative with wool crafts and started working on a colourful summer-themed project. 🎨🧶

Every activity encourages creativity and social interaction while giving our clients opportunities to use their abilities, practise familiar skills and enjoy a sense of purpose and achievement.

Yesterday, our clients attended a special Mass for the elderly and the sick at the Cathedral, held as part of the celebrations for the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady.
The morning offered an opportunity for prayer, reflection and participation in an important religious tradition within our community. Supporting our clients in practising their faith provides comfort and familiarity, particularly during meaningful occasions in the religious calendar. It also helps them feel close to the community as preparations for the feast get underway.
