October ends. The work continues.

Cancer prevention and care cannot be sustained by awareness campaigns alone.

They require evidence, partnerships, stronger health systems and consistent action.

At CPCI, that's the work we're committed to building, one meaningful step at a time.

What are we actually building at CPCI?

Beyond awareness, we're working towards something more enduring: stronger cancer prevention, earlier detection, better pathways to care and evidence that informs action.

Through the Joseph Hope Project and ACPIN, we're developing approaches that connect communities, research, partnerships and health systems.

Our direction is clear: Partner. Learn. Measure. Improve.

Recognising the signs is only the beginning. What happens next matters.

In our first episode of CPCI Voices, Nurse Favour explains the importance of timely medical evaluation, appropriate referral and follow-up when childhood cancer is suspected.

Early recognition must lead to action.

A historic moment for Africa in global cancer leadership.

The Cancer Prevention and Care Initiative - CPCI warmly congratulates H.E. Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu on assuming office as President of the UICC - Union for International Cancer Control for the 2026–2028 term.

As the first African to lead UICC, her presidency marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, Africa and the wider global cancer community.

Her longstanding commitment to cancer advocacy, prevention, equitable access to care and international collaboration reflects the kind of leadership needed to address persistent inequalities in cancer outcomes.

Beyond the significance of representation, this moment carries an important opportunity: to strengthen African voices in global cancer priorities and translate shared commitments into meaningful improvements in prevention, early detection, treatment and care.

CPCI celebrates this historic achievement and wishes Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu a successful and impactful tenure.

Congratulations, Ma!

Breast cancer awareness matters.

But awareness is where the journey starts, not where it should end.

What happens after someone notices a change matters just as much: appropriate evaluation, timely diagnosis and care that can actually be reached and continued.

This October, we're asking a deeper question:

What should awareness lead to?

Cancer prevention is often discussed as a list of things individuals should do. But that is only part of the story.

Nearly 4 in 10 new cancer cases globally are linked to preventable causes. Reducing that burden requires individual action, but also vaccination programmes, to***co control, cleaner environments and safer workplaces.

Prevention is not a promise. It is a head start.

Swipe through.

International Day of the Girl Child 2026

This year’s theme calls for an end to child marriage and greater investment in girls’ rights.

For CPCI, that investment includes health.

HPV vaccination is an important tool in preventing HPV-related cancers later in life. But protecting girls also means supporting their health, education, safety, dignity and opportunity to shape their own futures.

Invest in girls today. Build healthier futures tomorrow.

World Mental Health Day 2026

“Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.”

For a child with cancer, the journey is about more than diagnosis and treatment.

There can be fear, uncertainty, disruption to school and everyday life, and pressures that affect the whole family.

Listening to children and families helps us understand these experiences, and build care that responds to the person, not only the disease.

Hear the experience. Support the family. Improve the journey.
