DMA FORUM UNDERTAKES STRATEGIC FACILITY TOUR OF HMA PHARMACEUTICALS TO PROMOTE LOCAL MANUFACTURING, STRENGTHEN HEALTHCARE SUPPLY CHAIN

The Forum of Heads of Drug Management Agencies (DMAs) in Nigeria has undertaken a strategic facility tour of HMA Pharmaceuticals in Ilorin, Kwara State, as part of efforts to promote local pharmaceutical manufacturing, strengthen Nigeria's healthcare supply chain, and deepen strategies that support the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The facility tour, organized by the African Resource Center for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC_ESM), brought together Heads of Drug Management Agencies from across the country to explore opportunities for collaboration with indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturers and advance sustainable healthcare delivery through local production.

During the tour, members of the Forum were taken through HMA Pharmaceuticals' production facilities, where they witnessed firsthand the company's capacity in the manufacturing of high-quality pharmaceuticals and medical consumables that meet national standards. The Forum commended the management of HMA Pharmaceuticals for its commitment to excellence, innovation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement, describing the company's openness to collaboration and knowledge sharing as essential to strengthening Nigeria's pharmaceutical sector.

The Forum also expressed appreciation to the African Resource Center for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC_ESM) for organizing the strategic visit and for its sustained technical support in strengthening Nigeria's health systems. The Forum acknowledged the programme's contributions to improving access to quality-assured medicines, enhancing supply chain management, and building institutional capacity across states, noting that such partnerships are critical to advancing healthcare reforms and expanding access to safe, effective, and affordable health commodities.

Speaking during the tour, the Director-General of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, reaffirmed Plateau State's unwavering commitment to ensuring that citizens have access to quality, safe, effective, and affordable medicines and medical consumables.

He emphasized that strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing remains the most sustainable pathway to achieving medicine security, reducing dependence on imported medicines, creating employment opportunities, and guaranteeing uninterrupted access to essential healthcare commodities.

"The future of Nigeria's healthcare lies in strengthening local manufacturing. By supporting indigenous pharmaceutical industries, we are not only assuring quality and affordability but also building a more resilient supply chain capable of meeting the healthcare needs of our people," Pharm. Kim stated.

The Director-General further pledged to strengthen Plateau State's pharmaceutical supply chain by fostering strategic partnerships with credible local manufacturers and implementing innovative systems that will ensure the continuous availability of essential medicines and medical commodities across the state.

He also expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery through strategic investments and policies that continue to create an enabling environment for reforms in the health sector.

The strategic facility tour underscored the growing commitment of Drug Management Agencies across Nigeria to leverage local manufacturing as a catalyst for medicine security, supply chain resilience, and sustainable healthcare development.

Participants reaffirmed that stronger collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturers will play a vital role in ensuring equitable access to quality medicines and advancing Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians.

HOUSE HEALTH COMMITTEE CONDUCTS OVERSIGHT VISIT, COMMENDS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG, PS-DMCMA

The Plateau State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Health has conducted an oversight visit to the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) to assess the agency's first-quarter performance, review its operations, and identify areas requiring legislative intervention to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The oversight visit provided members of the committee with the opportunity to evaluate the agency's achievements, examine its operational activities, and interact with management on measures aimed at improving the availability and distribution of quality drugs and medical commodities across Plateau State.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Health, Hon. Yakubu Sanda, commended the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for revitalizing and operationalizing the agency through reforms that have repositioned it as a key institution in the state's healthcare system. He also applauded the management of PS-DMCMA for the remarkable transformation and progress recorded within a short period.

Hon. Sanda assured the agency of the committee's continued legislative support, noting that the committee would carefully review the agency's first-quarter report and collaborate with the executive arm of government to address identified challenges and further strengthen healthcare service delivery across the state.

"As we have seen, we will work with the executive arm to ensure that these challenges are addressed so that the people of Plateau State can fully benefit from the ongoing reforms. We are already beginning to see these improvements reaching the northern, central, and southern zones of the state," he said.

In his remarks, the Director General of PS-DMCMA, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, explained that the agency was established as a non-profit organisation with the mandate of ensuring the sustainable availability and equitable distribution of quality drugs and medical commodities throughout Plateau State.

He noted that since becoming operational, the agency has expanded healthcare facility coverage, strengthened partnerships with development partners, and significantly improved the state's public health supply chain.

The Director General expressed profound appreciation to Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector through the establishment and continuous support of the agency. He stated that the Governor's visionary leadership has provided the enabling environment for PS-DMCMA to improve access to quality medicines and medical commodities for citizens across the state.

Pharm. Kim further disclosed that the agency is implementing a long-term strategy aimed at extending the healthcare supply chain to the community level.

"We are looking at a system where, by 2030–2031, we will extend the supply chain to the community level, enabling patients to access their medications from the comfort of their homes," he said.

The oversight visit concluded with an inspection tour of the agency's facilities, where members of the House Standing Committee on Health inspected the warehouses, storage infrastructure, and other operational facilities, expressing satisfaction with the agency's ongoing efforts to strengthen the management and distribution of essential medicines and medical commodities across Plateau State.

PS-DMCMA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO COMBATING DRUG ABUSE AS WORLD DRUG DAY IS MARKED

As the world marks the 2026 World Drug Day, the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a drug-free, healthy, and productive society.

The Agency commended community leaders, health workers, security agencies, youth groups, faith-based organizations, and families across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state for their continued efforts in tackling drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The Director General of PS-DMCMA, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, recognized the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Executive Governor of Plateau State, highlighting the administration’s efforts towards strengthening the health sector and protecting citizens.
According to the Agency, key interventions under the current administration include improved regulation and oversight of the supply chain to ensure safe and quality-assured medicines reach healthcare facilities, expanded awareness campaigns and support services for substance abuse prevention and rehabilitation, as well as stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders including security agencies and regulatory bodies.

The Agency urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid the misuse of prescription medicines and narcotics, report suspicious drug activities, and encourage individuals affected by substance use to seek professional support.

PS-DMCMA also called on young people to embrace education, skills development, and positive life choices, noting that their potential remains vital to the future of Plateau State.

The Agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring the availability of the right medicines, of the right quality, in the right quantity, at the right time, while working with stakeholders to build a safer and healthier Plateau.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG’S FREE ANTI-SNAKE VENOM INITIATIVE (ASV), SAVES 311 LIVES IN PLATEAU

The commitment of the Plateau State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has recorded significant success through its free Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) initiative, with 311 out of 312 reported snakebite cases successfully treated and recovered between December 2025 and June 2026.

Following the receipt and distribution of Echitab® Anti-Snake Venom to healthcare facilities across 15 Local Government Areas, residents gained improved access to life-saving treatment without financial barriers.

The initiative has increased public confidence in seeking medical care, reduced preventable snakebite deaths, and strengthened emergency response across the state.

As the farming season begins- a period often associated with increase cases of snakebite incidents- Governor Mutfwang has once again demostrated proactive leadership by approving the procurement of additional Anti-snake Venom (ASV) for distribution across the state.

The additional supply is aimed at ensuring that healthcare facilities remain adequately stocked and fully prepared to respond swiftly to snakebite emergencies, while guaranteeing continued access to life-saving treatment for residents.

The sustained implementation of the free Anti-Snake Venom initiative reflects the commitment of the Plateau State Government towards strengthening emergency healthcare delivery, reducing preventable deaths, and improving the overall wellbeing of citizens.

This intervention further underscores the administration's determination to provide timely, accessible and quality healthcare services to the people of Plateau State.

PS-DMCMA Receives Delivery of New Batch of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food ( RUTF)

The Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) has received a new consignment of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to further strengthen ongoing nutrition intervention efforts aimed at combating malnutrition among children in the state.

The newly delivered RUTF supply will support the treatment and recovery of children suffering from acute malnutrition across targeted communities, reinforcing government efforts to improve child health outcomes.

This development underscores the “Time Is Now” mantra of the administration of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and reflects the government’s continued commitment to improving child nutrition and enhancing access to life-saving nutritional support services.

The agency had earlier received the second batch of Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (LNS-SQ), which is currently being properly warehoused ahead of distribution to beneficiaries. Both nutrition commodities form part of broader interventions aimed at addressing malnutrition and improving the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children across the state.

Presenting the RUTF consignment to PS-DMCMA were the State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Ajik Magaji; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr. Hosea Keln; and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Adams Bulus Lekshak.

The nutrition commodity was received on behalf of the Director General of PS-DMCMA, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, by the Director of Warehouse and Logistics, Pharm. Cyril Fwanshak, who reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to proper documentation, safe storage, and transparent distribution of all medical and nutritional supplies to ensure they reach the most vulnerable beneficiaries.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General, Pharm. Fwanshak expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his steadfast support and commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the wellbeing of children and vulnerable populations across the state.
