Back in the company of some of the brightest minds in reproductive medicine!

It's a pleasure to be attending the 2026 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Scientific Congress & Expo in Baltimore, USA, under the theme “Discovery, Innovation, & Advancement.”

Having attended previous editions, I always value the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, exchange ideas and explore new developments shaping the future of fertility care.

Medicine continues to evolve, and so must those of us entrusted with delivering it.

Always learning. Always advancing.

The future of medicine is no longer just about treating disease. It is increasingly about correcting some of its underlying causes.

Today, on World CRISPR Day, I am reminded of just how far medical science has come, and the extraordinary possibilities still ahead.

CRISPR gene-editing technology is already changing the conversation around conditions once considered lifelong, including sickle cell disease. With approved CRISPR-based therapies now a clinical reality for eligible patients, we are witnessing a remarkable shift in what medicine can achieve.

As a reproductive medicine specialist, I am particularly fascinated by the possibilities of genetic science for understanding inherited disorders, improving reproductive healthcare, and helping families make informed decisions.

Of course, the potential of CRISPR in human reproduction raises important scientific, ethical and safety questions. Editing human embryos for reproductive purposes is not an established or approved clinical treatment, and responsible innovation must remain our priority.

But the larger message is unmistakable: the boundaries of what medicine can achieve are expanding.

For Nigeria and Africa, our task is not simply to admire these breakthroughs from a distance. We must invest in research, develop expertise, strengthen our institutions and prepare to participate meaningfully in the future of genomic medicine.

The possibilities are enormous. So is our responsibility to pursue them wisely.

I had planned to keep my birthday quiet this year. Nothing elaborate, just a simple day of reflection and gratitude.

But the calls, messages, prayers, thoughtful gestures and outpouring of love from so many people have been overwhelming in the best possible way. I have tried to take it all in, and I can only say thank you.

To my family, friends, colleagues at ALPS Hospitals Alps Hospitals, Abuja and worldwide; mentees, patients and everyone who took a moment to reach out, thank you for making me feel so celebrated. Every message and gesture meant something, and I do not take your kindness for granted.

Life is a journey of learning, growing, serving and becoming. I am grateful for the people who have walked parts of this journey with me, for the experiences that have shaped me, and for the opportunity to keep doing work that matters.

I may have wanted to keep things low-key, but I cannot let this much love go unacknowledged.

Thank you for celebrating me, for remembering me, and for being part of my story.
