Satya is truthfulness 🔮

But it’s more than just telling the truth. The word ‘sat’ literally translates as ‘true essence’ or ‘unchangeable’. Our thoughts, emotions, and moods are interchangeable, yet they are what create our own truth. In yoga, we work on creating a little space so that we can realise that we are not just our thoughts.

꩜ The 5 Yamas are the first limb of the ‘Eight Limbs of Yoga‘ originating from the ancient Indian philosophical text, ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’. Each limb describes a different aspect of a yoga practice, all leading towards freedom and enlightenment.

ૐ The Yamas are primarily concerned with the world around us and our interaction with it.  By considering these aspects in our daily practice, on and off the yoga mat, all of our decisions and actions come from a more considered, aware, and ‘higher’ place, enabling us to become more authentic towards ourselves and others.

☯ Ahimsa can be interpreted as: not physically harming others, ourselves, or nature; not thinking negative thoughts about others or ourselves; and making sure that what we do and how we do it are done in harmony, rather than causing harm.

In memory of our dear Anat. Thank you for sharing your energy, knowledge, and pure love with us 🕯️🩵

According to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, there is an eight-fold path leading to liberation, known as the ‘Ashtanga Yoga System’ or ‘8 Limbs of Yoga’. The word ‘ashta’ means ‘eight’ and ‘anga’ means ‘limb’.

But how does one attain this freedom through yoga? Does it come at the cost of an expensive pair of yoga pants? Can you reach it by signing up for a detox retreat or finally touching your toes? Probably not…

If you’ve been practising yoga for a while, you’ll know that it goes far beyond the physical. While yoga offers us a way to get stronger, healthier and more flexible, it’s essentially a tool for self-realisation, or connecting with our true self 🧿

Chanting is a way to connect to the heart 🌀❤️

Using our voices to express what is inside through chanting gives our emotions a pathway. This is not a substitute for authentically sharing our feelings, but can actually ‘open the door’ for us to feel what is really there and find the courage to express ourselves in a loving and compassionate way.

Singing the names of the divine is like mixing sacred vibrations with those of our hearts, creating a sense of lightness that our emotions can use to evolve.

Meditation teaches us to become more aware of our thoughts and to stay in the present moment rather than distracting ourselves from it 🧿 🌀

A common myth about meditation is that it involves controlling thoughts and feelings or emptying the mind. In reality, it’s about observing your inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions without reacting, gaining awareness and clarity without judgment. There are different ways to practice this skill — here are some options! 🪬💫

While modern yoga often focuses solely on physical postures, traditional texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali emphasise that we practice yoga to stop the fluctuations of the mind 🪬

Guided meditations can be a great way to start, so we regularly upload them to our platform. Comment ‘alignment’ for our FREE 5 Minute Meditations program 🪔📿
