This October was Black History Month in the UK, and the EAU Patient Office is spotlighting the BALANCE Study, which explores the lived experiences of Black men of African and Caribbean ancestry diagnosed with prostate cancer. The study aims to better understand the unique challenges, needs, and experiences of these communities in the UK and internationally, helping to support more inclusive research and improve future prostate cancer care.

The BALANCE Study is currently recruiting participants in the UK and internationally. By sharing their experiences, participants can help ensure that future research, care, and support better reflect the needs of Black men affected by prostate cancer.

For more information about the study and how to get involved, visit the BALANCE website: https://patients.uroweb.org/balance?utm_source=eau%20patient%20office&utm_campaign=patient-office&utm_medium=social

THE FINAL RESULTS OF PRAISE-U ARE IN, and we look forward to sharing them with you on European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day on 5 November!

Join us at EMUC26 as we break down the results of how smart early detection of Prostate Cancer can help men across Europe.

Learn about:

• what worked well and the encountered challenges of the tested prostate cancer screening approaches across Europe
• how these insights can help shape future screening programmes around patients' needs
• how countries can use the lessons learned from PRAISE-U to improve prostate cancer screening and care by the experts from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO
• how the project is supporting Europe's efforts to save lives through earlier detection of prostate cancer by the representatives of the European Commission
• and what's next under the new PRAISE-U+ project

💧 Dehydration is one of the biggest risk factors for getting kidney stones.

With temperatures soaring across Europe, remember to drink plenty of water! When you're dehydrated, your urine becomes more concentrated, making it easier for kidney stones to form.

Did you know that about 1 in 10 people will develop a kidney stone during their lifetime? Unfortunately, the number of kidney stone cases often increases during the warmer months.

This summer, drink around 2 to 3 litres of water each day to produce pale, clear-yellow urine. Better hydration is just a stone’s throw away.

Share Your Experience with Prostate Cancer – Join the Dutch BALANCE Study!

Have you been diagnosed with prostate cancer? We want to hear from you.

The Dutch BALANCE Study is inviting men of African, Caribbean, or mixed ethnic backgrounds who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer to share their experiences through a short survey.

By taking part, you'll help researchers better understand the challenges men face throughout their prostate cancer journey and identify ways to improve care for future patients.

We also encourage healthcare professionals, patient organisations, and community partners to share this survey within their networks so we can reach as many eligible participants as possible.

❗ Many patients feel anxious about urodynamic testing because they don't fully understand what it involves or why it's performed.

Existing patient resources often fall short in accuracy, sensitivity, and relatability.

We and the EAU Section of Functional Urology have partnered to develop a comprehensive patient education programme on urodynamics, supported by leading international societies including:

🚽 International Continence Society (ICS),
🚽 International Neurourology Journal Society,
🚽 EUGA European Urogynaecological Association

This new e-course introduces the programme’s structure, educational approach, animations, live-action content, and plans for global accessibility through translations and international rollout.

This World Continence Week, hear from leading experts in urodynamic testing as they share valuable insights into a procedure that plays a vital role in understanding and managing continence conditions.
