Influenza A - Community Notice

Influenza A is putting significant pressure on our community.

If you are unwell with flu or respiratory symptoms, please help us protect patients and staff:

• Stay home if you’re sick, rest, drink plenty of fluids and practice good hand hygiene.
• Phone (if you have cold and flu symptoms) before coming to Akaroa Health. This allows us to triage you safely and arrange a face-to-face appointment if needed.
• When attending your appointment and you have cold and flu symptoms please phone reception on arrival and wait in the car. Wear a mask before coming inside.
• It’s not too late to get your flu vaccination. This season’s vaccine is a good match for the strains currently circulating.

Thank you for helping us keep our patients, staff and wider community safe while demand remains exceptionally high. 💙

There is a real spike in cold and flu illness in our community. If coming to Akaroa Health and you have cold and flu symptoms, wait in your car and advise reception via 03 304 7004. We may see you in the car park or ask you to wear a mask before coming in.

🤧 Cold and flu season is here

We are seeing an increase in cold and flu illnesses in our community, so we’d like to remind everyone to take a few simple steps to help protect themselves, their whānau, and those around them.

Please remember to:
🧼 Wash your hands regularly
🤧 Cover coughs and sneezes
🏠 Stay home if you are feeling unwell, especially if you have a fever or are experiencing significant symptoms
💧 Rest, keep hydrated, and give your body time to recover

For our older community members and those with ongoing health conditions, winter illnesses can sometimes become more serious, so please take extra care around vulnerable friends and family.

If you are concerned about your symptoms, need advice, or are unsure what to do, please contact the Akaroa Health team. We are here to support our community through the winter months. 💙
