When Jae decided to focus on the rural community, he knew hardly anything about farming.

So he spent close to a year heading down to Shaun's farm every week to learn it first hand. Shaun's family let him in, and a lot of what Jae knows about farming today comes from that time.

You can't help someone with a life you haven't seen up close. That's why Jae put in the time.

"You don't need this."

About once a month, someone walks into Pierre's office with their cover and that's what he tells them. Those are his best meetings, and the shortest ones.

Insurance isn't just about the cover, it's about the risk. No risk, no cover. If you do have a risk, that's when it's worth thinking about cover.

Our advice is free, so if you'd like to talk through what you should consider, we'll have that whole conversation with you at no cost.

Message us or give us a call, we'll call you straight back.

Rapid fire with Ivy.

Back in the Philippines she'd seen the posters — New Zealand, all green and view. She'll tell you it turned out to be true.

What would she say to herself on that first day in 2015? She'd pat herself on the shoulder: you made the right call.

"Here is home now."

Though she still misses her family. And then, after a pause — the food.

There's a reason we put our advisers on camera instead of a stock photo. The people helping you make a big decision have usually made a few of their own.

“Other than paper cuts…” 👀
We asked Ben from Property Brokers what the real risk is in his job. His answer wasn’t physical.
After 20 years in automotive and 10 in real estate, Ben’s juggling 38 listings with six more on the way, and taking on his vendors’ stress along with them. That’s why, for him, the mental health side of his insurance is the key factor.
He’s had Kris in his corner for more than 10 years. When he got back into speedway, Kris found a motorsport policy where a lot of other insurers couldn’t. And over the years Kris has come back with policy changes that worked in Ben’s favour.
“Once you’ve got a good team behind you, everything’s sort of reasonably straightforward.”
Thanks for sharing your story, Ben.
Want that peace of mind? Give us a call, we’ll call you straight back, or send us a message here.

"I can't afford life insurance."

Pierre, one of our advisers, hears that a lot. He's not here to argue with anyone's budget, though. The question isn't about the money. It's about the value.

Lots of factors go into your premium, and every one of them is worth checking with an adviser. So what are you actually getting for that money, and is it worth it to you and your family?

While some companies celebrate a strong quarter on a yacht, we grabbed the spades.

In July the Thrive team started transforming an old court at ASAP in Feilding into a grassy play area for the kids. This quarter we went back to finish the final patch — rotary hoe, fresh soil, seed, roller and all — and it was great to see July’s work already taking hold.

ASAP is Manchester House’s after-school programme. Thanks for having us back.

After that we attended the afternoon business session, handed out a few awards, and wrapped the day with dinner. As Pierre said: it ain't over until it's over.

Every organisation has its values framed on a wall somewhere — and nobody actually reads them.

So at the working bee we decided to bring them to life. Literally.

Extreme Ownership meant never letting go of the wheelbarrow. Challenging the Norm became raking the wrong way with absolute commitment. Doing the Right Thing was one stubborn w**d taken all the way to the bin, personally. Being Teachable looked like Pierre being shown which end of the spade goes in the ground.

Seven values, seven photos, one morning at ASAP — the After School Activity Programme at Manchester House on Grey St. Thanks for having us back. The turf we laid in July is looking great.

Here's something nobody tells you when you land in New Zealand.

Healthcare here isn't automatic. It depends on your visa.

If your visa lets you stay two years or more, you're eligible for publicly funded healthcare, the same as a resident. Under two years, you're generally responsible for your own medical costs.

One detail worth knowing that we couldn't fit in the video: time you have already legally spent in New Zealand counts toward those two years. So a shorter visa can still get you there.

And ACC is separate again. Have an accident and you're covered whatever visa you're on. But sickness is not an accident, and ACC doesn't cover illness.

That gap is where people get caught.

Ivy didn't know any of this when she arrived in 2015. Most of the people she meets still don't.

Who's the one person in a business that never gets insured?

Not the owner. The owner has usually sorted their own cover.

It's the key person — the one generating the revenue, or holding the relationships. The person the business actually runs on. And they often have nothing.

You can't just slot someone else in either. Hiring takes time. Relationships take a lot longer. The revenue stops in the meantime.

Then there's the other one Calder sees constantly: buy/sell agreements. Everyone assumes the co-owner can simply buy the shares. Most of the time their capital is tied up somewhere else entirely.

Do you know who the key person in your business is? Start there.
