This week we would like to introduce celebrant KM Adams!

KM has been a Funeral Celebrant in the Waikato since 2010 and offer advice and support for both secular and Christian-based services. As a Broadcaster and professional MC, KM combines her writing and public speaking skills to help you create a unique and memorable service for your loved one. She is there to do as much or as little as you need, guiding you through this time.

👨‍🏫What advice would you give someone going through grief? Grief is like a fingerprint, it's unique to everybody, so you will experience it differently. People mean well but what works for one person won't always work for someone else.

We were delighted to host a group of 5th-year medical students from the University of Auckland today for a discussion on death and dying. Together, we explored the financial challenges some families face when covering funeral costs, identified areas where support may be lacking, and shared ideas for potential solutions. It was a fascinating and rewarding conversation, and we hope our insights will assist them in developing recommendations that could make a difference for families across New Zealand.

🌴Dream Holiday: My dream holiday truly is not about a specific place, but about being surrounded by my family and closest friends. Whether it’s sunshine or snow, mountains or beaches, what matters most to me is the connection, laughter, adventure, relaxation, and happiness shared together. I believe fun can be found almost anywhere and that the best memories are created through the company you keep, rather than the destination itself.

❤️Favourite part of the job: My favourite part of this work is connecting with families and supporting them to find the unique and meaningful way that feels right for them to farewell their loved one. No person, family, or ceremony is ever the same, and I love helping people discover what that looks like for them, then bringing it to life in a way that supports a healthy and supported beginning to a journey of grief and bereavement.

👨‍🏫What advice would you give someone going through grief? I don’t know that there is one piece of advice that fits everyone, because no two people experience grief in the same way. But I do believe it is important to allow space for whatever feelings arise, and to be gentle and patient with the journey. Grief is not something to “fix” or rush through. Sometimes it is simply about enduring one moment at a time, finding comfort and joy in the small things where possible, and being surrounded by people who make you feel loved, supported, and safe.

We've received some lovely feedback about our beautiful Sue 🥰 we all already know this - but how wonderful to hear her being recognised for the beautiful person she is - inside and out.
