Sound Care Moments | August at Te Whare Manaaki o Tamahere

Sometimes it’s the little choices that make an activity feel just right for everyone.

For B**r Day, we did things a little differently, with a tasting of non-alcoholic ginger beers so everyone could join in and enjoy the occasion.

There were new experiences too. From our first Armchair Travel to India, complete with passports, Indian food and a game of Pachisi, to residents making gifts and thank-you messages for our carers on HCA Day.

And a trip to the local daffodil farm ended with a lovely thought, choosing a bunch of flowers to bring home for their friends at Te Whare.

Trying something new, thinking of others and getting to know each other, all part of everyday life at Te Whare Manaaki.

A chance to say hello and introduce Te Whare Manaaki o Tamahere to our community.

With our doors now open, it was great to join the Welcoming Asians: Wellbeing, Food & Culture Expo 2026 and meet more of our Waikato community.

Together with our Sound Care Group whānau from Cambridge Life and Steele Park Home, we enjoyed meeting new faces, having a chat and sharing more about the care we provide.

Te Whare Manaaki o Tamahere is now open in Tamahere, and we’d love to welcome you for a visit.

Celebrating Our HCAs | Meet Jasmine Chen

This HCA Day, we’re proud to recognise Jasmine Chen, whose willingness to step in, support others and go the extra mile for residents has made her a valued member of her team.
Jasmine is someone who is always ready to help wherever she is needed. Her colleagues describe her as a great asset to the team, someone who goes above and beyond for her residents while also being a dependable source of support for her fellow staff.

What particularly stands out about Jasmine is her attention to the little things. She takes the time to think about what will make an individual resident comfortable and happy, recognising that quality care is not only about completing tasks but also about creating meaningful moments and making people feel genuinely cared for.
Jasmine holds a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 from Wintec and brings experience from community and disability support services, along with a diverse professional background. She also speaks multiple languages, including English, Mandarin and Shanghainese, adding to her ability to connect and communicate with people from different backgrounds.

Her journey into healthcare reflects her commitment to learning, supporting others and making a positive difference in people's everyday lives.
Jasmine, thank you for your can-do attitude, your willingness to help, and for remembering that sometimes it is the smallest gestures that can make the biggest difference to a resident’s day.

Sound Care Moments | July at Te Whare Manaaki o Tamahere

Sound Care Moments is our monthly look back at some of the activities, connections and special moments our residents enjoyed over the past month.

For July, it was lovely to see residents settling in, getting involved and getting to know one another.

Matariki was especially meaningful, with residents from our sister home Cambridge Life, coming to visit. There were games, good chats and new connections, a lovely opportunity for residents from two Sound Care Group homes to spend time together.

There was plenty happening at home too. Donna brought a little Mr Whippy magic for Ice Cream Day, transforming a trolley and taking ice cream from room to room, complete with the familiar music. During our Commonwealth Games activities, Eliane and Janice were keen to get involved, while Nicholas encouraged others to have a go and helped along the way.

Here at Te Whare Manaaki, our Tamahere home supports younger people with disabilities and older people, and it’s wonderful to see our growing community beginning to make memories together.
