WE’RE LOOKING FOR A COUPLE OF EXTRA PAIRS OF HANDS! These two just aren't pulling their weight!
Collingwood Funeral Home is looking for a Funeral Home Assistant (or two!) to join our team for weekend rostered and after-hours work.
You’ll be helping our on-call Funeral Directors with things like:
Setting up funeral services
Greeting and helping families and funeral attendees
Assisting with transfers of loved ones
Getting things organised behind the scenes
Generally being an extra pair of hands when needed!
Most importantly, you need to be a people person...
someone friendly, calm, respectful and reliable. 😊

You’ll need to be physically capable of the practical aspects of the role and have a full, clean NZ driver licence.
No funeral experience necessary — we can teach you all of that!

A little reassurance for our community... With the recent closure of a local funeral home, we know there may be families who are left with questions about arrangements they have made, pre-arranged funerals, or simply what happens next.

So… why has Collingwood Funeral Home become one of Rotorua’s leading funeral service providers?

We’ve been giving this some thought… and we’re still not entirely sure! 😂

It’s certainly not because we think we’re better than everyone else or because we’ve been around for ages. And it’s definitely not because we’ve got all the answers.

We’d say it’s because we’ve always tried to do things a little differently, it’s not a case of “oh but it’s always been done this way” around here!

We listen, we care, we keep things personal. We don’t believe there’s a rule book for saying goodbye, and we’re quite happy to think outside the box if that’s what feels right for a family.

We also believe a funeral doesn’t need to be complicated or ridiculously expensive to be meaningful. Whether it’s a simple farewell or something a little more elaborate, we’ll work with families to create something that feels right — and fits the budget.

And while we take what we do very seriously, we don’t think that means everything has to be serious all the time. There’s often room for a laugh, a good story, a cup of tea, and the occasional “well, that certainly wasn’t in the plan!” 😏

Most importantly, we have a damn good team. They’re the people behind the scenes making the calls, answering the phones, fixing the technology when it inevitably decides to misbehave, making the coffees, carrying the caskets, calming the nerves and doing all the little things that families may never see — but that makes a huge difference.

So, if Rotorua has decided that Collingwood Funeral Home is one of its leading funeral service providers, we’re incredibly grateful.

We certainly didn’t set out to become “the leading” anything. We just set out to look after people properly.

And apparently, that seems to be working. ❤️

While the bosses are away… the team steps up! 😂

As Mike and my winter break comes to a close, we just wanted to take a moment to congratulate our awesome team back home for doing such a fantastic job looking after the families who have chosen Collingwood Funeral Home to care for them.

We know the week has brought its challenges — including the usual technology hiccups that seem to have perfect timing whenever we're away! 🤦‍♂️😂 — but, all in all, we couldn't be more proud of the efforts of Justin, Roy, Robyn and Kaye and the awesome "behind the scenes crew' - the caterers, IT assistance, florists, celebrants, graphic designers (all of our industry colleagues, you know who you are!)

It just goes to show that teamwork really is where it's at! 🙌

While we've thoroughly loved our time away (and this view certainly hasn't been too hard to take in! 😍), we're also really looking forward to getting home, catching up with everyone and getting back amongst it.

A huge thank you to everyone who has engaged Collingwood Funeral Home over the past week. We are genuinely privileged every time a family asks us to walk alongside them and help farewell someone they love. ❤️

Awesome team. Awesome families. And a pretty awesome place to call home.

While the team back home at Collingwood are working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly, Mike, Sam, Charlie, Georgie and I are making the most of a well-earned winter break... (seriously... who brings a 10-week-old puppy on holiday???

🐾 Meet Georgie – The Newest Member of the Collingwood Funeral Home Team! 🐾

We'd like to introduce Georgie, our newest (and smallest) team member!

At just 2 months old, Georgie is a Griffon pup who has recently joined Charlie and Sam as our official Funeral Home Assistants in training. He's settling in brilliantly and has already embraced the important responsibilities that come with the role...

So far, his key achievements include:
🐶 Conducting detailed inspections of every item on the floor.
🐶 Ensuring no shoelace, trouser leg or unsuspecting toe goes unnibbled.
🐶 Testing the durability of office furniture one tiny bite at a time.
🐶 Providing plenty of laughs and reminding us all to stop for a cuddle every now and then.

Like any puppy, Georgie is full of curiosity, mischief and energy. While Charlie and Sam have mastered the art of looking busy while doing very little, Georgie is determined to make up for it by investigating absolutely everything.

We're sure many of the families who visit us over the coming months will meet our little apprentice. He's already proving to be a wonderful reminder that even in a place where we help people through life's hardest moments, there's always room for a wagging tail, a little laughter, and a bit of puppy chaos.

Most of us don’t spend much time thinking about our own funeral. But taking an hour to sort it out now is one of the kindest things you can do for the people you love.

Now For Them is a funeral prepayment plan. It’s run by The Funeral Trust Services Limited, a charitable company established by The Charitable Funeral Trust, which was set up by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand. The Company is registered as a charity with the Trust.
