Super New Moon — Whiro with an influence of a positive reset. The Offical start to Te Tau Hou Māori🎊

I’ve been told I’m a veteran reader, which I actually took as a negative. But in truth, I have been reading for a solid 27 years. Maybe it was the tone used; I picked up on that. As of late, and unlike when I first started on social media, I have not for a very long time promoted this mahi or offered live, free kōrero. I’ve placed posts but never put intention behind them as I did previously.

I actually contemplated retiring from this mahi. But on my birthday a week ago I was approached by a few extremely valued tūroro to offer my services again.

I appreciate that I am still valued for the mahi. Seeing this, I have been actively looking at what productive offerings I should keep and what I should lay to rest. Which brings me to this space and a window of opportunity all practitioners should take advantage of. I feel this reset is a time to create potential opportunities through tuhituhi and intent.

Under the influence of Whiro, I think it’s a perfect time to do some self-evaluation. Especially under the influence of Whiro we can distinguish what is pai or kino. Not a time usually celebrated — more a time of anticipation, of what to expect; not a time of self-expression or promotional empowerment. It is an expected reset allowed by a time of inner reflection. For myself, I have an individual urge to create a positive transformation in my own life and it is ringing out extra loud.

With the longer nights of no moonlight, this coming week we welcome a powerful new phase under the presence of a Super New Moon — a time of inward clarity and crisp, alert energy. For active Rongoā Māori practitioners, Te Taiao’s influence on seasonal change brings focus, clear kōrero, and bright ideas; all in time for an official reset of te Tau Hou Māori 2026.

For Rongoā Māori practitioners the season of Takurua brings heightened wairua and intuition. During the light of day 🌞 it’s a great time to communicate and action opportunities: I encourage honest kōrero. It’s a good time for hui, case discussions, sharing clinical observations, and seeking peer guidance — whitiwhiti kōrero.

Redefining clinic and remedies: as the seasonal change of Hine Takurua’s influence brings us inward, work within the alignment of our taha hinengaro and specific organ systems — like our respiratory region and maintaining our metabolic system. We define intuitive clarity that can help us identify subtle patterns of imbalance and make more informed decisions. Also, it’s time to take inventory and do a seasonal restock of your winter rongoā.
- Individual releasing of what no longer serves: let go of practices or beliefs that limit effective healing.
- New manifestations: initiate new healing projects, training, or community clinics now.

These nights are for you to give to yourself and your own kete. Once you are solid you can then be more effective for your whaiora and hapori.

In today’s fast-paced world, where convenience often takes precedence over nutrition, the idea of eating whole foods might seem like a luxury or even an inconvenience. Yet, research increasingly shows that whole foods, fresh, minimally processed, and nutrient-dense, are fundamental to long-term he...

What Rongoa is for me....

It's the smell of a freshly baked rewana and the flooded thoughts of my nanny that follow, its the warm embrace of my mum after too many months abroad.

It's the deafening silence in the depths of Tangaroa, while I feel my way around the rocks, then the familiar feel of suction and spikes. It's the moment of pure satisfaction of feeding the whanau, and the acceptance of not, blessed.

It's the morning greeting of manu singing and dancing in the wind, its the warmth of the sun on my face. It's the smell of linament, fresias and aniseed. And the taste of fresh kina on toast.
It's the cackling and banter of nan's late night raranga roopu, and the 3am calls for papas cup of tea.

Its the glassy stillness and silent shores but also the ferocious waves crashing and howling winds. It's the pitter patter and inaudible chatter of my irāmutu, it's the sideline cheering and chanting on a wet winters day.

It's the daily gathering of maara kai, and the ability to cook nourishing kai for my whanau. Its the forehead kisses and late night cries. It's the giving, and learning to be okay with taking. It's riding those highs, and learning to equally appreciate the lows, for without darkness there is no light.

It's the uncomfortable silence, and learning to sit in it. The once hard conversations that now freely flow. The accepting of what was and moving through the layers of healing.

It's the open emotions and allowing these the ability to surface, allowing myself to feel, and allowing them to move on. It's the courage to say no. Its the learning, and also the unlearning.

It's the flow on effect. It's allowing myself the time to be alone. It's the elephant in the room that I once hid from, and now I nurture.
It's my here and my now. What was, what is and what will be.
My rongoa is in me🌿
