2 months to recover or 2 years ? Which one would you prefer ?
Same injury, same physio, the difference: how quickly you come in to get help, and your commitment for 8 weeks.
New patients or new injuries, please book as soon as possible after the event weekly sessions for 8 weeks for best recovery.
The correct management in the first 8 weeks can mean the difference between full recovery and a lifelong issue
The first 3 days after an injury it is critical to support the injured area, from then light movement is often helpful but it needs to be direction and load specific.
For example, a severe ankle sprain with ligament rupture is seen in the first 3 days and really well managed for those 8+ weeks you may prevent surgery in many cases.
The same injury could either be fully resolved in 2 months if managed well, or over 2 years if there is a late presentation to physio, even if managed perfectly but late (eg seen 2-3 weeks post injury), the patient may require surgery and up to 2 years from injury date until full resolution.
Injuried, you see how it goes, keep using it, you take anti-inflammatory medicine, it may feel better, but you are delaying recovery. We need inflammation and protection to heal. Then you present to a physio 3 weeks later...improvement but not resolution...scans, sports Dr referral, 2 months wait, MRI, confirming injury 3 months after the event. Inflammation has settled, but the optimal natural healing window has closed. Endless physio, rehab, later a surgeon referral, wait times..another 3 months, approval requested from ACC, more another 2 months, surgery, 6 weeks of post op healing, physio, time off work, time off your life, 2 years before you are fully back.
I have seen this too many times, please please, get in great physio early, commit to at least weekly for 8 weeks with very clear guidance. Follow the plan, recover in 2 months, not 2 years.
Speed and correct management as soon as possible with 8 weeks of close guidance solves most issues.
Get in quickly, and stick to the plan for 2 months, recover, then live your life !
We don't want you to suffer for 2 years.
