Simple ways to lower your cholesterol.

High cholesterol doesn't have to mean a complete lifestyle overhaul. A few small, consistent changes can make a real difference:

Diet

- Choose healthy fats — swap butter and fatty meats for olive oil, avocado, nuts, and seeds
- Add more soluble fibre — oats, barley, beans, lentils, apples, and pears
- Eat oily fish like salmon, mackerel, or sardines a couple of times a week
- Cut back on saturated fat and avoid trans fats in processed and fried foods
- Eat plenty of vegetables and wholegrains

Lifestyle

- Get moving — aim for at least 30 minutes of activity most days
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Quit smoking
- Limit alcohol
- Manage stress where you can

Everyone's situation is different, so if you're concerned about your cholesterol, book in with your doctor or nurse practitioner. They can check your levels and help put together a plan that's right for you.

Beat the bugs this winter with a few simple habits that go a long way:

🧼 Wash hands regularly
🤧 Teach kids to cough/sneeze into their elbow, not their hands
🏠 Keep sick tamariki home to rest and recover
🔥 Keep bedrooms warm and dry
🪟 Open windows daily to let fresh air in
💧 Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious kai
💉 Stay up to date with immunisations — flu, Covid, RSV, and everything on the national schedule.

Small steps, healthier whānau!

Did you know that every time you apply for, renew, or replace your driver's licence, you need to confirm you're medically fit to drive? For some, that's a simple declaration, but depending on your health history, you may need a medical or eyesight certificate.

We're here to help! Our team provides professional driving medicals to get you sorted efficiently and safely.

A few things to know:
- When you book, let reception know you need a driving medical, and bring your current licence along. If you are not registered with us, please bring along your medical history.
- If you're aged 75+, a medical certificate is required each time you renew (at 75, 80, and every two years after).
- Commercial drivers (heavy vehicle Classes 2–5, or P, V, I, or O endorsements) usually need a certificate signed by a NZ-registered GP/NP.
- Your GP/NP completes your Waka Kotahi medical certificate, which you'll need to use within 60 days of signing.

It's Mens Health Week, and we reckon getting shoulder-to-shoulder is such a wonderful way to check in with your mates.

So many meaningful conversations happen shoulder-to-shoulder — while fishing, working, walking, watching sport, or helping a mate with a project.

For a lot of men, opening up feels easier when there’s something else happening alongside the conversation. Less pressure, less intensity, and a shared sense of moving forward together.

This Men’s Health Week, check in on your mates. Grab a coffee and go for a walk, work on something together, and make space for a real conversation along the way.

Sometimes the best support doesn’t happen face-to-face. It happens side-by-side.

And if there's anything you think we can help with, we're here to support you 💙
