KELLY, John Lawrence.
Passed away peacefully at Waikato Hospital on Sunday, 26th April 2026, just three days short of his 80th birthday. Loved husband of Rachel (Kay).
John lived a simple life and was well known for his passion for vintage cars and machinery. A valued retired member of the Pirongia Fire Brigade, he will be remembered for his quiet dedication and willingness to lend a hand.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Pirongia Community Centre Church, 574 Crozier Street, Pirongia, on Tuesday, 5th May 2026 at 1:00pm. Donations towards John’s memorial, to support Kay at this time, would be greatly appreciated and may be made at: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/support-kay-kelly-and-honour-johns-memory, or left at the service. Messages to the Kelly family may be sent c/- 262 Ohaupo Road, Te Awamutu 3800, or left in John’s online tribute book at www.rosetown.co.nz

This year we’re printing the service sheets for ANZAC Day dawn and civic services in Te Awamutu, Kihikihi and Kāwhia. This is just one way we can honour those who have served and continue to serve our country.

This Easter Sunday is often a time for quiet reflection and connection.

Today, we hold space for those in our community who are carrying the absence of someone deeply loved, whether that loss is recent or long held. If today feels a little heavier, please know that you’re not alone. Grief has a way of surfacing in still moments, and it’s okay to move through the day in whatever way feels right for you.

From all of us at Rosetown Funerals, we’re thinking of you and wishing you a peaceful Easter Sunday.

Funerals don’t stop because of a fuel crisis.

Today’s government announcement on essential services has once again missed funeral directors; a critical oversight for families at their most vulnerable.

Our latest Fuel Impact Survey shows funeral directors are highly mobile, with many travelling hundreds, even thousands of kilometres each week to care for the deceased and support grieving families. These services cannot be delayed.

Without recognition as an essential service, fuel disruptions risk adding cost, stress, and uncertainty at a time when families need support the most.

We are calling on the government to ensure funeral services are included in fuel contingency planning and prioritised for access.

We think this message is such an important one to share.

At Rosetown Funeral Home, we know that when families come to us, they’re often doing so at one of the hardest moments of their lives. That’s why being a member of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand matters to us. It helps ensure there are clear standards, open conversations, and proper support every step of the way.

Families shouldn’t have to worry about the “what ifs” during a time of loss. Being part of FDANZ helps provide reassurance and confidence when it’s needed most.

Most funeral directors want to get it right.

But when you’re grieving, good intentions aren’t enough.

Families deserve protections that don’t depend on someone choosing to cooperate — things like clear processes, written estimates, professional standards, and a formal complaints pathway when needed.

Because grief is hard enough.

You shouldn’t be left carrying regret, unanswered questions, or the feeling you have nowhere to turn.

Before choosing a funeral provider, confirm they’re a Funeral Directors Association member:

Ask about their complaints process. Look for the standards displayed.

Your family deserves that safety net.

Last week we said goodbye to Jordan Goss who is heading to Seddon Park Funeral Home in Hamilton.

Although we are gutted he’s leaving us, he had an amazing opportunity to take up a management role, and we wish him nothing but the best as he starts his new position.

Jordan, you have been an incredible part of our team and we will miss you, but we’ll continue to see you regularly as you’re just up to road.
